Use 1999 Civic wheels on 2014 Fit?

Hello you all!

New soon-to-be Fit owner, should get my 2014 Fit Sport sometime next week. I'm from Montreal, Canada.

I will trade in my 1999 Honda Civic, on which I would like to keep the winter tires as they should be good for at least another 2-3 years.

Both wheels have a bolt patern of 4x100; both wheels have a +45mm offset; both wheels have a hub size of 56.1mm; both tire diameter are compatible (185-65/14 tires on the Civic - 185-55/16 on the Fit). So I guess it should fit...

My only concern is that the wheel width is 5" on the Civic and 6" on the Fit. Will it clear the front brakes? Anyone tried it?

(I already know that the ride will be less sportier with the 14" rims, but in winter, I don't really care...)

Thanks in advance for any help!

The width won't be an issue. More concern is that 14" wheel diameter; the front brake calipers might not fit inside. I don't know one way or another, so look for others to chime in here or just try it out yourself. If they mount on the front hubs & spin freely when the car's in neutral & the wheel's off the ground, then you're good.

I've got my winter tires on 6x15 wheels from a later-model Civic. That works just fine.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm not that much concerned about the 14" diameter of the rims as here in Canada, the DX trim comes with 14" steelies. I think the LX trim comes with 15" steelies (or 14"), and the sport trim with 16" alloy wheels.

I also know that the front bakes are the same on all 3 trims, so I guess it will fit fine.

I want to know before I have the car because right now my winter tires are on steelies, and I also have alloy wheels with summer tire. I want to keep the allow wheels with the winter tires and would have like to be sure before I pay to transfer the tires...

Anyway, I think I will transfer the tires and will try the wheels on the car when I get it next week (hope it will be next week!)

I really hope I enjoy the Fit as much as my 99 Civic! At least I will have more room to transport stuff!!

Perhaps things have changed for 2014, but my 2009 owners manual says that all non-Sport models, both US & Canada, use 15" wheels.

Living really close to the Canadian border (I can visually see Surrey, B.C. from the front door of my workplace), we get a good number of Canadian Fits that visit us. From my observations, I think the DX gets the steel wheels, the LX wears 15" alloys that are visually identical to those on certain Civic Hybrids, and the Sport in both the US & Canada has 16" alloys.

The earlier GD-series Fits run 14" wheels on non-Sport models, and the GD Sports have 15" alloys. So, the 14" rims might well fit your 2014, but it would a be good idea to check it first.

I have the 2014 Fit brochure with me here:

DX, DX-A and LX trims comes with 15" steelies;
Sport trim comes with 16" alloys.

My 14" alloys came originally from a '95 Del Sol, and are the same as the ones that came on some 96-00 Civics.

I found this thread searching around (https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...fit-sport.html). Should work OK.

I'll get the car on Wednesday. Will update the thread with the final result and a picture of the wheels for future reference.

It should work fine! Wishing I thought the same when switching from my old Aerio to the Fit.

You should have no problems with the 14" tires and rims. For the past three winters I have used 185/65-14 tires from my 1997 Civic on my 2012 std Fit which takes 15" rims.

Be sure to check out what tires are available in a 14" size. I have a 99 Civic as my DD (which I'm looking to trade in on a GE8). I run all season tires on my 14" steel wheels, and the tire selection is really lacking anymore for a 14" wheel. I have a set of Hankook tires on my car now, and the rubber compound is not that great. I can easily lock the brakes up on wet or damp roads. Unfortunately, there just isn't a lot of selection anymore for quality tires.

Having said that, as long as you're using the wheels for winter tires, I don't see why that would be an issue. The nice thing about a 14" wheel is that tires are CHEAP!

So, winter wheels fit perfectly. I also kept the spare tire of my 1999 Civic because all AT Fit in Canada don't have spare tire! The spare tire won't fit in front, but does in the rear...

Also learned that the 2014 Fits in Canada don't have TPMS sensors...which I am happy about! No dash light for the whole winter!

Here is a picture of my 1999 Civic wheels on the Fit...
