Rattles/vibrations from passenger seat

Hi. I have a 2010 Honda Fit Sport that I purchased used about a year ago. Just last week, I started noticing slight rattling sounds/vibration noises coming from the passenger seat when I drive and hit small bumps (even very small bumps). It is really annoying. I cannot pinpoint precisely, but it seems to be coming from underneath the seat, towards the front bottom (?), maybe partly from the seat release bar under the seat (for moving seat back and forth).

It does not do this if someone is sitting in the seat, and also when I put my hand on the seat and press down slightly, it seems to stop. I've tried moving the seat back and forth, thinking maybe it just hadn't been locking in position somehow.

Please help! Has anyone had any similar issues / solutions. This has been the first I've felt some regret for getting the car; otherwise, I've really loved my Honda Fit. Thank you!

Check the seat mounting bolts under the plastic caps on the seat rails they are known to loosen and often times were not properly tightened from the factory.

I think you might be right! I notice that when I press down on the plastic caps under the seat which cover the mounting bolts, this seems to stop the vibrations while driving.

I'm a little nervous about removing the caps for fear of breaking them. But I just found this post regarding removal of the caps on this forum:

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...r-removal.html

Hopefully it won't be too hard. Have you ever removed these plastic caps before?

Yikes, I just tried removing the plastic caps by trying what was suggested in the post. No luck yet. It's especially difficult on the left side of passenger seat because the cap butts up against the middle console area. Has anyone removed caps successfully and have any suggestions? Thanks!

Passenger seat rattle; removing plastic bolt covers

Came to the forum tonight with another problem and saw this thread. I see I'm not the only one with the passenger seat rattle; had it for the last couple years and have lived with the annoyance on my 2010 Fit. Having read the above thread, I just went out and was able to pop off the front outside plastic bolt cover pretty easily with my fingers, per the instructions on the link above. And, of course, that nut was quite tight.

The plastic cover over the inner rail (against the center console) was indeed more difficult and impossible to remove with just fingers. So I got two "long-stemmed" flat screw drivers and was able to wedge them between both sides of the left rail and the plastic cover, and laterally pry the cover away from the rail. But the cover is also clipped down onto the rail, so it took some additional jimmying with the screw drivers to pop the cover up and off. And under that cover was the offending bolt, a good 1/4 of a turn loose. A 14mm driver tightened it right down. Reinstalling the plastic covers was a snap. The left one pushes down and snaps onto the rail. The right one pushes back and snaps onto the rail.

Double check the rear seat, where is lataches at the back. I find that it creates a little rattling sound on bumpy roads. As a remedy, i put some tape on the latch loop just to reduce the play the seat may have.

Hope you solve the issue as i know those little noises can be annoying.

The noise is gone. The tightened bolt on the front passenger seat did the trick!

But the human brain is funny... I actually missed the familiar rattle during this morning's drive. The silence was deafening!

Thanks for all the replies. Glad that helped you DoctorD; I'm guessing your brain will readjust just fine and love the absence of the rattle!

I'll try this myself after I get back from family trip. I have to find a 14 mm driver - thanks for specifying the size for doing the bolt tightening! This forum is awesome!
