Emissions Light....question

So my "emissions" light came on last week. I had AutoZone pull the code and there were 2.....both a "major" and a "minor" leak at the gas cap. We visually inspected the gas cap and it appears to be in perfect shape. If it was loose, it was been on perfectly tight since the light came on, as that was our first suspicion. The light remains on though. Any suggestions? Am I doomed to taking it to the dealer to get checked out? Or is if it's likely nothing, is there a way to reset it and see if it comes back? Any advice would be very appreciated.

a couple of notes for context:

1. The light came on the day after a friend of mine who had borrowed the car filled it up. So there is at least a chance that he didn't tighten it fully.

2. There was no additional gas-cap warning on the odometer at any point.

gas leak light caused by a loose gas cap is fixed easily by tightening the cap. meaning the damn light will go away after a couple of miles once tightened.

Right....but as I stated, it's been tight for at least a week and the light is still on.

disconnect the battery for 10 mins to clear the codes. see if it will pop back up. do this if u dont have access to an odb2 scanner/reset thingy.

Give it 1-2 weeks depending on how often you drive and the distances you drive. It doesn't clear after a specific, set number of miles - computers these days.

Maybe take off the cap and make sure the o-ring is set properly too. Wipe off any dirt on the ring and around the gas filler to make sure it gets a good seal. Then wait and keep your fingers crossed. It takes several drives before the message clears.
