any ideas what is making this noise?

Sounds like something that is rotating at the speed of a wheel going around and around.
Wheels/tires/brakes?
Is the noise present only while using the brake?

Actually the sound reminded me of a plastic hubcap creaking, but a sport shouldn't have steelies and caps.

No when going low speeds and using brakes I *think* Shim all out of pad maybe? Pad contacting wheel?

ezone 09-04-2016 09:14 PM

Figure out which corner it's coming from, pull the wheel off and check it all out.
Pad shims, backing plate, slide pins, abutment clips out of place.....?

It didn't sound like a wear indicator squeal, but I suppose anything is possible. Dig in and see what's up.

Do Fits have the dust shields behind the rotor like some other Honda's have? I wonder if that's what it is

Alco RS-1 09-05-2016 08:47 AM

Yes, jack up one wheel at a time, spin it by hand and listen.

Blackberry Goose 09-05-2016 12:43 PM

jacked it up, spun wheel, heard something..touched lug nuts...3 of 4 spun in my hand

doh

Dropped down jack, torqued to 80 ft pounds..test drove...noise gone :thumbups:

Boy..sort of embarrassing thats what it was lol

Thanks for the replies guys

Who was the last one to put a wrench on those lug nuts?
That's a serious liability problem.

Yikes! Hope that didn't put gouges in the wheel studs. You are quite lucky and attentive to trace that down fast before it came off at speed and caused a wreck. Def torque to spec BY HAND, no tire shop air guns! They seldom care and can be gorillas with those things.

The wheel and lugnuts can suffer damage too.

Mechanic shop air guns are A-OK!

The people who can't be bothered to do it right are the ones who cause the most damage, and it sure seems like they can be found in just about any shop.

An air impact gun can be used without damage, and get the torque right.

indeed. couldve seriously got yourself and others hurt.

It might have been Town Fair Tire...I'm not 100% sure

I usually will hand torque the lugs on all my cars after a rotation, bad on me for not following up like I should have.

Life gets busy and you forget the little simple stuff at times. I won't make that mistake again.

The studs look good save one that is missing some threads at the beginning. The nut does have enough threads to grip onto for a nice tight fit (when it's done right lol) That has been that way for awhile though. Eventually I'm going to have to replace it...afaik replacing a stud is not all that intensive to do?

Thanks for the advice guys...it's running as good as new now...I expect another 190K out of it :)

Have the shop take care of the damage caused by their error (good luck with that)

It may not be simple to replace a wheel stud on your own:
