Well, I flew over 1000 miles a few days ago to grab a 45k mile Fit Sport in Blackberry Pearl. Drove/camped my way back with my 9 year old daughter across Alaska in February. Was quite the adventure. I'm in the business of importing JDM parts so this should be a great little showpiece to go with my fleet and also a fun daily driver. Big plans!

That's the way to do it. Way to go. It is amazing to me how many people are afraid of travelling outside their little area when shopping for a used car. While it took me two times to get it right, with the first time ending up as a wasted 3 hour train ride, it was well worth the time and adventure, and in the end, I got a great, reliable car.

This one is an automatic, will be a family in town daily driver. I live on an island so there's not much to choose from. This is how I buy all my cars. Figure out what I want and fly out. I have already ordered jdm hood, hinges, fenders, core support, crash bar, headlights, etc... plans include air ride and a full K-Break body kit, Clazzios, large wheels. Going for a GT/VIP style build.

Yes, very cool! A great photo and such a memorable way to spend time with your daughter.
I traveled only 150 Miles to another state to find my 2013 Fit Sport, a gift to my daughter as her first car. I shopped for 2-1/2 Months until I found just the right one.

I think that's a great story.
Then the purchase becomes more than just buying a new "used" vehicle. It becomes a bonding experience with your daughter, a memory...as well as a chance to get to know the new vehicle.
I suppose the only real risk....is having enough faith in the used vehicle to be confident in it's ability to get you through Alaska in February.
I've never gone out of state...or very far in any vehicle purchase. BUT...
I always take what I call a longer "bonding" trip with a new vehicle as an exercise in getting familiar with it.
If you do it as a return trip? That's great.

I recently bought a fit in annapolis maryland which is 300+- miles from home because I wanted white and MT. The ride home was a bonding experience for my dog and the car. More importantly, It showed me quickly all the good and bad of the car. My older dog really likes to 'surf' the Fit with the back seats down and it's easy for him to get into. I'm planning to hit the road in the spring to drive skyline drive in virginia and to see how comfy it is to camp in.
