Yes, this was one way. Any way you look at it, the cost is quite expensive.

guys- i got a quote today for $1200 trucked door to door (NY-CA) on the top row of the truck (apparently lower level will attract road hazards like pebbles etc). Plus i can throw in 150lbs of personal gear in the trunk. I think its the best quote so far, and that is a guaranteed-price-quote, but will need to give carrier a two week "pickup window" to get this rate. I dont think i can do better..

Go for the long drive! Grab some painters tape and go to town with the front end :-) That helps with the stone and big debris.

Kitkat - Do you have an illustration of a car done up like that ? Factoring in gas/lodging/tolls/meals/ i really dont think you'll end up saving much from $1200. Unless ofcourse you enjoy a 3000 mile drive.

32 mpg (per fuelly.com)
3000 miles trip
National Current Avg gas price = $2.866/gal

3000 miles divided by 32 mpg = 93.75 gals
93.75 gals x $2.866/gal = $268.6875

I believe in a prev post, Knope calculated $298-$304 in tolls/gas. so lets just call it "$300" in transportation costs

I'm wild guessing here .... $50/night in a motel? assuming you spend 2 nights in those .... $100.

As for food, I'll leave that calculation up to you guys, meals for some people consist of a "dollar menu", while others eat a certain kind of thing they eat. but my guess is, not to the tune of $800 worth of meals

TL;DR = DRIVE cross country. yolo
