Fog Light Protection

2 days after I did the lower grille mesh installation, I had a cracked driver side fog light. Dealer wants $193 plus tax for new assembly. I use glass sealant to seal the glass instead. With some mesh left from earlier, I made guards for the fog lights. Hopefully that wil protect them for good.

How does the mesh stay in place there?

The housing opening is tapering smaller towards the fog light. The mesh I used is stiff enough. Once I push it tight against the housing, it stays there pretty securely. Also the wind load during driving tends to push the mesh into the housing. It is not going to fall off.

My old mesh fell off last week. I re-did it by putting a thinner mesh between the housing and the lens. It looks a lot better and definitely it is going to hold. I think it should protect the fog lens better than film.

wow that's some hardcore protection...thats some pretty smart ingenuity. I just used the 3m 8 mil film and so far so good for me (knock on wood).

I think the best thing you could do it keep some clearance between the people driving in front of you especially on the freeways where debris get flung up at a higher velocity. This will also save the rest of your front end (bumper, hood, and windshield) as well.

Anyways good luck with the chicken wire.

Thanks. It is a cheap and effective mod. It may save hundreds of dollars in replacing the expensive fog lights.
