the very thin white elastic thread comes out the bottom between the door frame and the door panel. its length is about 6 inches and frayed at the end with no give when tugged.

Had it too, didn't know what it was and cut it off.
I think it's the umbilical cord

Yeah, it's from when they had the plastic covering the fabric on the doors and on the door frame on the car. Mine still had the plastic and elastic string when I took it home (it was too late to detail) and brought it back in monday for them to wash and detail.

It's just the plastic wrap they have to take off on all brand new cars.

Those are just leftovers. Cut it and forget it.

I had this just the other day. I was parked in a parking lot and went to the passenger side to open the front door and was horrified to see this rather long white streak across the door. I though for sure somebody keyed the car, but then I just pulled it off like silly string. It was quite a long thread! Man, I was relieved! But I didn't know what could have caused it- until now. Cool. That string was hiding for quite some time and why it made an appearence all over my door still remains odd.
