Revisiting the $50 or less Axle Back Exhaust Option.

video is here:
YouTube - Honda Fit 2009 GE8 Sraight Pipe Axle Back Sound.

So we've had an influx of new members and we have not brought up this topic in a while. So as a reminder: You can go to your local muffler shop and ask for an "axle back straight pipe" and tell them to leave your old axle back w/muffler in the car to take with you home. It should not cost more than $50, if it does, you are being taken advantage of. It also should only take 20 minutes max. The sound is very good imo. I made a compilation of sound bytes from my axle back and posted it on youtube for you to hear but it does not do justice to the sound. It is significantly deeper in real life, something my iphone sucks at capturing. You can unbolt and remove your stock axle back for free to get an idea of what it sounds like before you commit.

Make sure to listen to the 2 drivebys in the middle. The first half is crazy loud due to the microphone being right on the rear wiper blade on the outside of the car 2 feet from the exhaust the whole time. The drivebys give you an idea of how quite it actually is.

I've done this on my fit. Its awesome. For anyone interested in doin this, make sure you bolt up a piece of pipe to direct the exhaust out the back of the car. If you remove the muffler, and leave it at that, a couple of things will happen.
-under hard frequent acceleration -
1. nasty smelling exhaust fumes will enter the car, making your car smell like a stink bomb lol
2.your passenger side rear seat will get warm/hot to the point of the fabric will start to smoke. Not good.

I wonder if you went with a 2.25" pipe if it would produce a lower tone. Anybody have experience with this?

I don't have it done to my car yet. I will soon.
I can say it sounds good cause i heard it in
person. Francisco has it done on his car and
he gave me a ride to see what it sounds like.
Def worth doing if your on a budget.

Well then go outside right now with a ratchet and 12mm (or was it 14mm?) socket and unbolt the axle back muffler and just pull off the hangers (dish soap helps) and drive around a bit. Just don't drive too much or, as others have said, you will melt a plastic body plug under the rear seat and let exhaust fumes in. If you love it, go straight to a muffler shop. If you drive like a sane person you will make it there no problem just leaving the axle back off at home. Otherwise, just bolt the stock axleback back on WARNING: there is a balloon gasket between the axleback and b pipe, try not to lose it. I did, but honestly you don't really need it, but why lose it if you don't have to.

Combine this with the DIY intake and you will sound beastly.

Lyon, you're the man, man

I'm gonna get this hooked up on my ride this week...more so for the weight reduction but the sound is a nice bonus

This will be an easy 6-7 lb weight reduction.

This mod should be possible using an aluminum pipe with V-band clamps, right? If I order 2" aluminium pipe and 2" V-band clams it should mate right up to the preceding section of exhaust right?

What is the section of exhaust just before the axle-back/muffler?

Might do this. Not one to spend tons of $$$ on engine mods, but for short money, this should compliment my diy intake box well.

Thumbs up

I don't have an axle-back, but I do look forward to opening up the Fit, especially with the K&N typhoon combined with the Magnaflow muffler
