Phew - finally decided enough was enough. I took my Fit to the dealer yesterday and said that I still have 20% on the oil life but wondered if it was time to rotate the tires.

Once the guy saw 9,308 miles on it he said, "And how about an oil change?".

I put my car on the road end of April and have racked up the mileage since then. 39MPG would be a fair average over that time - need to run the numbers.

According to the service guy I must be driving my Fit accordingly because the MM was still showing 20% oil life and 39.2MPG. They were used to seeing 7-8K, forgot to ask what he saw for MPG's. It's all in the ECU.

Tire wear diff between the front and rears was 1/32". Cost me $20.21

i did my own tire rotate, im use to doing it every 5k.

they didnt charge me for my first oil change though (:

Solo I am very pleased. With winter on the horizon and no where in my five months of looking am I seeing anyone - anywhere - suggesting today's oils should go over 10,000miles I figured it was time to change it. The 20bucks was for rotating the tires.

At 8K I was down to 40% Steve so you are doing it right.

 

Your results sound about like mine. I've been changing my oil every 10,000 miles or 20 percent, whichever comes first. I rotate my tires every 7,500 miles or when I determine that they need it, since I can measure tire wear and condition directly.

 

There are lots of people on BITOG promoting extended drain intervals, especially if using a good synthetic oil. I'm not condoning it, just saying there are people doing it and performing used oil analysis to back it up. Here's an Acura with an 18,000 mile oil change interval...

Yep, Bob is the Oil Guy - I have his bible. This was my first oil change. Right now I'm still running dino. Next oil change I go to syn. I'm not going to fret the choice, but will stick with a name brand. Given my driving profile syn will eliminate the fear factor. 18,000 miles is simply crazy IMHO - I'm still a bit of a die-hard traditionalist ;-)

Coyote what you do is exactly what the Honda service tech suggested. Once every six months. I might very well adopt that formula.

I do the same as the old Coyote in my Dodge Caravan. It is low mileage so just do it Spring and Fall.

I manage to control myself with the Fit til it hit 15%. A bit over a year and 15,000km. For you unconverted that would be approx 9,000miles.

As I run snow tires as well I do rotations only when I change tires.

 

I'm at 17.5K miles and 40%. My 1st oil change was at 9k miles with 20% This'll likely be a 10K oil interval. I put snythetic after the 1st change and it only cost me $38. In the Altima, i would have paid 6x-8x that amount by now.

Oil changes for me are at roughly 3600 miles.

So far at 100k miles on my 09. Runs like a champ.

 

When you hit 15%, the MM nags you by letting you know every time you start the car. That little nugget, along with clearing it all the time didn't take long to push me to change the oil. If I remember, I was at about 7,000 on the original oil. It was mid sping time. My rather short commute to work every day drops my MM quicker than some, and winter only added to the drop. All in all, I've come to think the MM is actually very good at gauging properly for oil life. At least it seems acurate for my driving habits. I rotated my tires at my inspection, a couple of months later.

I went to my own mechanic for everything. Didn't charge me for the tire rotation.

My Fit keeps getting better and better gas mileage now. I'm somewhere in the upper 8,000 range and I feel like only now the car is truly broken in. And it sure is happy!

nice, i had to change mine before 10,000 too, but the 15% indicator wouldn't come up before 10,000, but i must have really bad driving habits. i go on the highway almost everyday, and i red line the car in 3rd gear coming off of highway entrances.

 

actually mostly suppositories menopur, bravelle etc.
