Has anyone changed from stock mineral oil to fully synthetic ?. My Jazz is going for a 30,000 kms service next week and I'm thinking of changing to synthetic. Any experiences ? Worth the extra expense ? Comments please. Alan

The only excuse against synthetic oil is pure ignorance.

 

I use full synthetic 5-20. I don't really notice a difference, only advantage for me are the longer service intervals. I also use a magnetic drain plug.

 

5-20, 5-30 it doesn't make a difference, it's better. By the way, North America is the only location using 5w-20, it's just to try to satisfy C.A.F.E. standards for the U.S. It's just a hair lighter than most other oil weights. You decide.

Yeah. That's a bit harsh, no? I run synthetic - the extra cost is really a couple cups of coffee out.
But I could run normal oil and be fine with it. Honda would specify if that wasn't appropriate.

Mineral is very popular with the Motorcycle crowd and the (Motul especially) as far as synthetic Mobil 1 seems preferred with high RPM or Turbo apps.

 

I've been using Mobil 1 0W-20 for my 2009 since when I first got it. Runs great, no problems. I'm not a full believer in synthetic oil, I really believe regular dino oil is just as good at the regular interval specificed by the car. But just like some people who prefer to drinks Peet's coffee rather than the liquor store brew, it's just a luxury item I like to buy.

I do get a wierd engine whirling sound when I accelerate though...hmm.. maybe it's the thin oil I'm using...haha...

 

I used blended synthetic for 17 years on my Geo Prizm-ran real smooth up to the day I sold it.

 

I have 5 quarts of pure ignorance in my garage need to wait for the MM before changing it (15w-40).

 

what's the best full synthetic 0W-20 out there? any recommendations

And best for me means best value, Mobil 1 AFE is a true full synthetic oil and only $24.50 for a five quart jug at WalMart. Watch for rebates also.

I haven't switched over yet so can't comment. I have bought oil and filter already but my MM is still at 50%. I'm sure to see a change but I won't be able to say how much came from the 0W20 and how much from Mobil 1.

Whilst Mobile1 has the reputation, to avoid any conflicts with the warranty I'm going with the Honda Fully synthetic - Code No. SL 5W40. I don't think that Honda makes oils and seem to remember reading somewhere that their oils are re-badged Mobil products.

Having dealt with a few car dealers in Thailand myself I would agree with you on this. Best to take car to dealer for all scheduled maintenance using all Honda parts and fluids to avoid any issues. Anyway service prices are so cheap there anyway it doesn't pay to do yourself. I got spoiled when I lived there, full detail inside and outside on my HiLux 4x4 for only USD$2

Does Honda recommend 5W40 for the Jazz? Seems very heavy oil, I would have thought 5W30

Just looked at the Honda "Fixed Price" service booklet ( which covers all Honda models )and they list 3 oil types - SL/CF 5W40 ( fully synthetic ), SM 5W30 ( mineral ), and SL 10W30 ( maybe for transmission but the writing is in Thai )however they don't specify car types for each.
