Synthetic or Mineral oil ?
#21
Just looked at the Honda "Fixed Price" service booklet ( which covers all Honda models )and they list 3 oil types - SL/CF 5W40 ( fully synthetic ), SM 5W30 ( mineral ), and SL 10W30 ( maybe for transmission but the writing is in Thai )however they don't specify car types for each.

And this is spelled out in black and white where?

Absolutely false. Where did you get this idea?

oooo an argument!
May I direct your attention to aisle 3.8 where there's a fight already in progress.
Honda just says (owners manual, 2009 page 254) whatever oil you put in it must meet the service requirements and weight of conventional oil they specify. I guess that means only use 5w20.
Me, I just drive into the Honda-fast-service lane on the way to work. Honda dino 5w20 (they told me exxon/mobile makes it here) and a wash. $25, 20 minutes I'm on my way. Yes I use the MM. Yes I'm ignorant.

5w20 or better. So 0w20 also works

The owners manual is pretty specific. Do you have a shop manual that specifies?:
The viscosity/temp graph shows 5w20 for all ambient temps.
Wouldn't better depend on local temps? In Saudi Arabia I think heavier weights would be better.
If I lived up north I'd probably go for 0w20 regardless of what the manual says, but in Georgia it's moot.

Synthetic is just fine. Some hondas I believe were designed for synthetic only (I think that's the way the S2K was but I could be wrong). All three of the Honda/Acura dealers I've regularly used all had synthetic oil changes as an option for all hondas/acuras offered.
I have mine done at the dealer using synthetic and have no warranty concerns at all.
