10% MM, 11,348mi, first oil change analysis
Saw the MM flip to 15% at 10,154 and then took it down to 10% left, and did the first oil change at 11,348mi. I sent it in to Blackstone Labs to see what they said. Basically looked good, and said to try to go for a 13,000 mi oil change interval. I replaced it with Mobil 1 0w-20 and a Wix filter, and put on a Fumoto valve while I was at it.
Cool! 11k+ mi. Thanks for sharing!
BTW, what's your driving environment/routine? Freeway mostly, flats (shows you're in Colorado), stop and go, pushing it (spirited), average, babying it, long drives, short errand drives... Just curious...

Thanks for sharing. Looks great and it proves Honda uses a very good oil. What got me confused is the TBN being so low with the additives being so high? It looks like a filter change might bring the wear items down and you could go another 10000 miles. Your molybdenum will be lower from now on too.
Your first oil change and it's at 11,348 and it's still good. Dam, I'm impressed. You are sure it's okay to use full synthetic oil on so new an engine? I thought you had to wait till you had at least 5k miles before you could use synthetic. Also, what is a Fumoto valve? Great post bye the way.
My dealer recommended 5k so I am almost up to my second oil change first two are on the dealer. Some dealers around here offer life time oil changes with a purchase of a new Honda. My Wife's Camry is recommended at 10k so I thought my Fit would be the same.
0w20 Honda uses is full synthetic or at least I think so, that is why the UOA is so good and still has most of the additives. I am impressed too. http://www.infineum.com/sitecollecti...a%20042109.pdf

My dealer now recommends 3 months. They make an appointment automatically that I cancel.
Their 5w20 is semi synthetic and costs 29 dollars for a oil change. 0w20 is $69 so if its semi synthetic then they are robbing me.
If you would've waited until 0% to 5% on the MM you probably would've reached 13,000 miles. So this report tells you the MM is indeed doing its job and can be trusted. Since driving conditions and driving habits change stick with the MM not miles driven.

Yea, I think I'm going to try to take it down to 5% or just as it hits 0% next time, unless it goes a year, and then I'll probably just change it around the year point. The MM does seem to be fairly accurate... it'd be interesting to compare against a newer model where the MM went to 15% at a much earlier mileage to see if the oils are in relatively the same state. This had two 3000+ roundtrip road trips on it and a trip up and down Pikes Peak.
The oil recommended in 2012s is now 0w-20 which only comes in synthetic. I think all older models have been OKd to use 0w-20 as well, as was mentioned in the link posted above, but I think it's actually happened at this point.
A Fumoto valve is a small ball valve that goes on in place of the drain bolt to make future oil changes a bit simpler and hopefully less messy.

fumoto valve would be perfect right now on my '09 cause the f-king dealer overfilled the oil by like a quart (an inch over the top dot) during the last major service they conducted.

It's somewhat hilly here, but with slow long grades. I mostly drive around town for short errand type things, but occasionally go for road trips. I like to push it on entrance ramps and bump it up into the 5k range, but otherwise I drive pretty boring.

So, if I'm understanding you guys correctly when I go to my dealer for it's first oil change I will either get 0w20w full synthetic or synthetic blend oil? By the way, I was in Walmart shopping yesterday and looked thru the motor oil in the auto section. They had many types of oil but the only one in 0W20W was full synthetic Mobil One.
