Adding Bluetooth to stock stereo

Has anyone used the bt35-hon by USA spec to add bluetooth to a stock (non-navi) stereo?

Here are some features they claim to have:

Sound Quality: The BT35-HON for Honda connects directly into an available port on the back of your radio. Because it directly connects, it is able to stream HD quality audio from your Device into your radio similar to how a factory phone kit works. Never use another Cassette or FM transmitter again! These can't compare to the quality of a direct connect adapter. To Stream Music, device must support A2DP

Control On Radio: The BT35-HON for Honda offers control of the Phone/Device from the radio and steering wheel buttons. Control is limited because this is a wireless streaming kit. For Music - You will be able to change tracks up and down. For Track Control, device must support AVRCP.*For Phone Calls - You will be able to Answer Calls, End/Reject Calls

Control On Phone/Device: You will have full control on the Device you are using to your entire music and video collection. No need to worry, your screen and buttons are never disabled. On Devices with Apps, you have complete access to Pandora, Sirius/XM, You Tube, Video*or any streaming music program. It will play just like your music (no radio control). You have access to 100% of your Device.

Text Display : The BT35-HON for Honda*will allow you to see the*phone number of the incoming call. Press the TEXT button to show the*incoming caller.*If your car does not support Text Display, the phone number will not appear.*If the caller’s phone number is blocked, no number will appear.*Some radios and phones may cause the radio to only display 8 or 9 digits of the incoming caller.*Not all text-capable radios will display caller’s phone number.

Phone Calls:*When receiving or making a phone call the*BT35-HON for Honda*will mute your music and allow the phone call audio to come through your speakers; for incoming calls*you will hear both your phone ring and hear a default ringtone through your*speakers (the*BT35-HON for Honda*will only mimic some of your phone’s ringtones).*The* BT35-HON for Honda**will automatically switch to Bluetooth mode when there’s an incoming call (even if your radio is off)! The*BT35-HON for Honda*uses advanced technology to turn your radio on and switch to the correct source to help you never miss a call while driving again.
I saw a video and some info about it here and wondered if anyone has actually had experience using it with the Fit's stereo. Does it actually work?

Thanks,
TK3

That looks like a really good system --- all the videos and reading I've done on it.

I may want to buy one. Anywhere cheaper than $125 on eBay (free shipping)?

from looking at the installation instructions with the instructions for the Honda USB interface, I cant have both. Looks like this will replace that.

You might try offering that to ipodcarpros.com (see their Let's Make a Deal page) since they are an Authorized Dealer. They seem legit but since I haven't used them, I can't give a review for or against them.

Now you made me curious. I just emailed tech support for USA Spec to verify this. I'll let you know when I get a response.

Company writes on their YouTube channel:

"You press the "AUX" button to get the radio in CDC mode. The Built-in CD player of the radio stays intact. With the BT35-HON connected the "AUX" button will cycle between BT35/CDC mode and the AUX audio input jack (provided something is connected to the AUX jack)."

No word on the USB jack. If it still works, then I'll probably buy this unit. If not, forget it! I use the USB more than anything else.

I received a response from USA Spec technical support and was told that the BT35-HON shouldn't impact use of the OEM USB. He also recommended purchasing from Crutchfield because they have a good return policy (in case there are problems).

hummm.... i use a roadster2 by motorola and it can basically do everything this unit can do, plus it will not shut down your music when you get an incoming call. i can have the stereo playing while i speak through the roadster2 and the party on the other end of the call does not hear the music thanks to beam forming/noise cancellation technology built-in. and it costs 1/2 the price. works with google nav, stream audio too...

auto on/off by door pressurization detection.

something to think about.

^^ sounds good. i think the benefit of the bt35 is it keeps your car looking stock and dont need to worry about charging the speaker phone.

my roadster2 needs a charge about once every 4-6wks depending on how often i use it. it speaks how much battery power is left each time it turns on automatically.

GL with the install!

pairing bt35-hon with CRUISE & AUDIO &NAVIGATION & PADDLE?

So I guess my question would be this:

Could you pair the BT35-HON with

part# 36770-TK6-A4 SWITCH ASSY., CRUISE & AUDIO &NAVIGATION & PADDLE

Also part number 35890-TM8-J01 SWITCH ASSY., NAVIGATION GUIDE& HFT from the same page.

And this: 39180-SEA-G01ZD
Honda Fit INTERIOR LIGHT Parts & Honda Body Parts Catalog Online @ myHondaPartsStore

I know that the part number may be different than the 2013, but I could not find the part numbers for 2013s anywhere, so I assume the 2012 parts are similar enough to use as a starting point for those that could find the 2013 parts.

If you add up everything that would come out to be: under $600 I think. If someone wants to check my math that would be great, because I am lazy. If you look at the nav system which is almost 3000 dollars by the parts list then it is pretty good to actually be factory parts~minus the nav which you could pick up for less than 200 dollars aftermarket. Not sure if they make a bluetooth+battery version of tomtom or garmin, but I think one would want that if they went to all the trouble of doing an install that is so complex as noted above for the wireless feeling. I would love to know if this can be done in a 2013 Base 5MT. Even without nav it would be cool to have hands free like the sport nav imho.

im not sure wat you mean but i have a nuvi in my 370Z that has BT and i use it as a speaker phone, nav, and as extra gauges with the ecoRoute BT transmitter. i also have lifetime free maps and traffic.

i suppose if you dont mind the aftermarket look this is yet another cost effective approach, but if one's loooking for factory clean install with no battery to charge (my roadster 2), the route johnalex went is best bang for buck.

the only thing i dont care for about these hardwired systems is it cuts off your music when you're talking or receiving a call.

and most often, people already have a smartphone, so why not use that as your main device for nav, weather, calls, etc. etc. just needs a cradle and speaker phone (car kit).

Ok, installed mine yesterday. First I didnt remove the A-frame, I just removed the weather stripping around the door and slipped the mic cable behind the A-frame and under the roof. I then fed under dash and under stereo center console to under glove box where I mounted the BT35 so it is easily accessible. (post pic late of where). I can now confirm the USB still works and the BT35 works great. I will say to anyone thinking of doing this , the best way to get the one screw out that holds the stereo in place , use a socket extender and if you open the bottom glove box all the way(like you were accessing the cabin air filter) you can get the perfect view of the screw(will post a pic later) which is pretty deep up there. Also I wrapped all my tools in masking tape to avoid scratching the dash up.

If you order from crutchfield , their directions for removing the radio are pretty darn good with the exception of being more specific about the one screw. One last thing, the 2012 and newer have a cup holder LED, so watch that when removing the panel under the radio.
In all it took me about an hour to do, but I hadn't pushed the connector in all the way so after I put everything together it came loose and the BT35 and USB didn't work, but took 5 minutes to get apart again and fix. So make sure everything is connected really tightly.
Hope that helps Guys.

I'm looking at purchasing the BT35 but I've got a question on the functionality of it. If I want to pause what I'm listening to, can I do that through the console or do I have to pause it from the phone? The user manual seems to be rather light about how much functionality we actually get through the stock stereo.
Thanks!

Sadly, no. It does pause and resume if you get a call, and you can do next/previous songs and volume up and down. But you cant just pause and play songs. It's a trade off for bluetooth in my car that I'll Take.

Just throwing this into the mix, but Honda offers an accessory Bluetooth module that goes in front of the map lights. It's not "for the fit" but you can search and see thr others have added the Odyssey sunglasses holder on here, then the bt unit replaces the sunglasses holder. Just an FYI.

That's called Blueconnect and it was mounted on the sunglasses holder on the Accord and Odyssey (here's a link to the more recent version). It's quite expensive and doesn't seem to have a lot of the features I want.
