New Pioneer Stereo with Car Play

So my wife bought a new car recently and I was pretty jealous of the blue tooth and handsfree calling. Went to Car Toys and treated myself. I'm pretty happy so far. Works very well. Now I have GPS, Blue Tooth, I can say "hey siri call..." and she'll do it for me. Call quality is good. Pretty fun upgrade and cheaper than a new car.

This is a 2009 by the way.

Hey there,
I'm not sure of the model number or where it came from. It's silver. I just took the car to a Car Toys and they did the rest. When they ordered the dash kit they just said it was coming in from Seattle. Hope that helps!

Hey thanks. It was about $780 altogether. Took them about 3 hours. I think the unit itself was 399. They added a USB port next to the power outlet down by the cup holders. Looks real good

One more question. Not sure how all of this works. But for the navigation you use your phone that in turn is sent via Bluetooth to your dash unit ? GPS is not part of the dash unit like the factory unit ?

Hey no problem. GPS is not part of unit. When I plug the phone into the unit with the USB it automatically switches to Apple CarPlay which uses Apple Maps which will display on the unit. So far it works really well. There are some good YouTube videos out there that demonstrate it.

I need to get this. Does it have Navigation, or it uses Apple Maps? Rear camera work?

Thanks

Few questions

hey man that unit looks great! I got a few questions,

how is the responsiveness on the unit? Any lag? Any other particular features that you like on the unit that you werent expecting? Any dislikes/cons?

and did you know the model of the unit? Thanks!

It's interesting how far we've come in such a short time.
Both myself and my Dad bought new vehicles in 2010 and 2012 respectively.
My 2010 Honda Fit Sport had the standard, large dial stereo.
My Dad, in I think, 2012, bought a Rav 4, that had a standard stereo on the dash.

In the intervening years, now almost every vehicle has an infotainment interface that includes a touch screen and some type of at least blue tooth connectivity.

I remember when I bought my 2010, I thought I was "cutting edge" just being able to plug in a memory stick into the USB port and listen to downloaded music.

Anyway, that's a real sharp looking installation. And it does bring your vehicle up to date with todays expected infotainment options.

If I still had my 2010, I'd probably be wanting to do similar.

I will be sticking with 2009 technology as well. I do not have a cell phone. Imagine living without one. But then as a child on rural farm we did not have a telephone or electricity. Wow eh.

I put a deposit down today on a Kenwood 7" unit with CarPlay and AA, it will cost me $2800 CDN ($2233.06 USD) after installation and taxes ($12%). Labour alone is $500. This includes rear camera, various harnesses to get it to work with steering wheel controls.

But it also drives the car while you sit in back listening.

Hey sorry for the late reply. It uses apple maps. I could have had a rear camera put in also, but decided not to. I do wish I would have had steering wheel controls added. I'm still enjoying it overall. They also added a USB port down near the cupholders under the dash. Pretty cool upgrade. Keeps me from wanting a new car for a while.

Hey sorry for the late response. There isn't any lag at all. Once I plug my phone in, Apple Car play kicks in. But if I just used the blue tooth features, and never plugged my phone in, the actual radio interface is pretty cool too. You can have a custom wallpaper, make phone calls, but no navigation. They installed a little microphone in the upper left of the windshield. I wish I would have spent a little more money and added steering wheel controls.

Using car play and having apple maps/navigation right there on the dash is great when I need it. Turn by turn directions over the radio is nice and seeign the visual is great. I'm pretty happy over all. It was about $700. Cheaper than a new car and nicer than what comes in most new cars now.

Can't remember the model or unit number. I'll try to find out.

Can you post pictures of the USB port next to the 12V outlet? I would like to add one to my car.
