I appreciate the info on the hondatuningmagazine article.

It's amazing that new Kraftwerks spec Denso Iridium plugs produced power. This is the first time I have read that spark plugs make power. Does any one have the part number on the sparkplugs?

Take the spark plug claim with a grain of salt. If the Fit tested had old plugs, I would expect some improvement from new plugs, period. A properly controlled test would have dyno'ed fresh OEM-spec plugs vs fresh Kraftwerks spec Denso Iridium plugs. I'm not saying that these plugs don't make a difference, just that this test may not be conclusive due to a flawed test procedure.

Are the old spark plugs NGK or ND platnums? I think the OEM NGK or ND platnums that were in the Fit were not worn out. OEM NGK or ND platnums last up to 100,000 miles.
If the OEM NGK or ND are copper then they will wear out much faster but only the old school hondas run copper.

It was in the hondatuningmagazine article. I hope they have credibility for all of our sake. The car was relatively new when they modified it, plus it has to do more with the fact that the spark plug does not stick into the combustion chamber as far. Kraftwerks claims that the new plugs dont create a hot spot while the OEM ones do. I think it has more to do with the flame front travel since the combustion would propagate from further up in the heads thereby causing a more consistent 'forward' travel of the combustion. The OEM ones would have a more spherical combustion with a small amount of the combustion going back towards the head instead of the piston, hence the 'wasted' energy. The hot spot theory might work since the OEM ones stick out further, which would let them get hotter since they are smack dab in the combustion area. And as we all know, hotter metals lead to higher electrical resistance, which would reduce the spark energy and increase the load on the electrical system. All these factors are all very minute but added together can account for the 2 hp difference. But so can a dirty injector or dirty spark plug. 2 hp is within the statistical range for the dyno so maybe it was just an outlier run, unless they averaged the dyno runs, and did a lot of runs.
Hondatuning is pretty respected though, so if they said that they felt a difference and since they have test driven and modified Hondas since the beginning, I would believe the spark plugs work.
But hey, if you look at the big picture, these are just spark plugs and they are cheap compared to all the other modifications. If they dont work as promised, its just a set of spark plugs, you're gonna have to change them out eventually when doing a tune-up.

1. Stock plugs could not have been that old, was an 09 a few months ago.
2. The plug Kraftwerks specified, the threaded part is flush, the stock ones went into the chamber further, so smoother less turbulent air flow with the change
3. On my snowmobile forum, the 4 cyl 1000cc 150HP Yamaha motor does make more power with a plug change, so many guys have dyno'd results that fact is really unquestionable.
4. I think Oscar would say if he thought there could be a flaw in testing.
What is he making? $8-14? Not worth the reputation hit if it was untrue.
That is just my humble $.02
