GE8 Axle back straight pipe w/ stainless tip $50

I had a local shop put an axle-back straight pipe on my GE auto sport and I am now selling it for a loss. I liked the sound of it, but never realized how much the autos shift around in rpm. This thing would be awesome on a manual car. Sound is nice and throaty at lower rpm which gives way to a nice wail at higher rpm. Nearly silent off the throttle and at low loads.

Looking for $50 and your stock exhaust. I will include the stock muffler I took off (cut about 6" from muffler). I will do all the work to switch them out as well, so I would prefer local sale (north county san diego) or if not too far, you can come to my place and I will swap them out.

I'd be all over this, but can't give up my stock system. If you end up being able to sell without trade let ne know. I'm local & you won't even have to do the labor.

Really expected that to be a lot louder... I'd probably do the deal if we weren't on opposite sides of the country lol.

I have an AT and am concerned that this will reduce backpressure and take away some power...

how did it feel for you?

Yeah, it's not that loud at all. I have had an exhaust and or intake on every vehicle I have owned (7 cars, 2 trucks, 2 streetbikes), and this is right on the sound level of most of them. Closest comparison was my 02 Protege ES with a blitz Nur spec cat back (with the sound insert in).

I noticed no change. I don't think there was enough of a difference as there is still a cat and muffler in the b-pipe. Also, I made sure it was made with the same size tubing as stock. Did this almost purely for the sound of it. My only issue is that I just want it a bit quieter (I guess I am getting old ). If no one buys it, I will probably add a small resonator and it should be fine. With the auto as you accelerate slowly, the engine holds a single rpm as the torque converter slowly locks up, and the result is a slight droning in the car. Its not loud, just there. 10 years ago, I would have thought the sound was perfect, but now its a little too much.

Clean looking straight pipe!

What tire size are you running on the fit? 205/50?

Yeah, 205/50. Rubs a ton in the front on stock wheels. I have already trimmed the plastic twice. Now it is self clearing the last little bit. If I ran a little camber, it wouldn't be a problem, but I drive a lot and mileage is key.

GLWS but I think you'd have better luck if you drastically lowered the asking price, it's kinda steep.

I think you'd be lucky to get a straight trade - your axle-back pipe and hacked muffler for an intact OEM axle-back. If anything, the cash should probably come from your end of the trade. I mean think about it; one has a mandrel-bent, OEM axle-back while the other has a press-bent pipe with a tip, plus a hacked OEM muffler. That's just what I think though, maybe there are people who think this is worth more than the OEM axle-back.

My sale was going on the assumption that others would be looking to do the same thing (which most muffler shops charge over $80 to do). I was trying to save someone money.

I had an exhaust shop quote me 130 for the same thing...to some people this may be a deal depending on what shops are local to them.

Oh I see. It's just that I'm used to seeing $100-$120 for custom press-bent piping from the cat-back.

Now I know, there does exist (somewhat) a market for axle-back piping at this price. I don't agree with it, but I'm obviously not the only one who gets to control this economy haha.
