Lowering springs installed!

Just had some T1R s coils installed the other day! Thought I would share some pics/comments! (FYI): the car is sitting on two separate halves of the driveway! The slab that the front tires are sitting on is more horizontal than the slab the rear tires are sitting on! The ride is really nice and smooth. I have also noticed when driving on the freeway that the wind/turbulence does not batter you as much! I have noticed one thing and would like some feedback on it as well! I have noticed when I am pulling into the driveway the front makes a little noise like the spring is shifting or something of the sort! What could be making this noise and how can I make it stop? There is no noise any other time while driving the car!

It's remarkable how much better the GE8 looks when lowered.

agreed---^

but that goes for the gd aswel.

our cars are FUGLY without it being lowered.

300 miles and the noise is still there! I've noticed it coming from the passenger side front! I checked everything to make sure it was tight and the noise is still there! What could be causing it?

Best thing to do is to take it to a shop. If everything is lined up and installed correctly and is happing only on one side then it has to be something.

I'm taking it in tomorrow to have the guy who installed them take a look at it! It sounds like a "boing" noise. It only happens when i'm backing out of the driveway and the wheel is almost at full lock! I figure if something was loose it would make noise when I accelerate/brake! I posted some links below to show that other car manufacturers that also incorporate the same suspension design as the fit have similar characteristics! I know each car has it's own issues, just using them as examples!

Could an "over tightened" strut bearing be causing the noise due to it not allowing the strut to move freely in the bearing?

I ask because I have a noise coming from the front right passenger side too, ever since I had my springs installed. I've been meaning to take it in, but haven't had the time. For me it's like a metal clanking sound. Anytime I turn it to the left or go over bumps it makes the sound. I thought it might be the steering control arm (because I messed with that when putting the springs in) but like I said I haven't taken it in yet. Let me know what you find out, I'd love to fix it on my own since I put in my own springs.

I hope my problem is the nut being too tight on the strut shaft! Should be an easy fix! I will let you know after I have driven the car for a couple days after I have it fixed tomorrow!

So I took the car to the shop that did my springs today and had the car lifted up to find that some of the coils are rubbing at the top of the spring! Could the strut nut that holds the assembly together be causing this if it's over tightened? I can't think of any other reason! I'm not going to get on here and say that the springs have a defect because I have no experience with springs and or testing them to see if they are defective! What do you guys think? I'm going to back the strut nut off tomorrow and torque it to spec. I saw another thread listing the proper torque specs and see if that helps I think the nut was 65 lbs. ft. if I remember correctly. I know the guy that did the springs did not use a torque wrench to tighten the nut, he used an open ended wrench and an allen wrench!

Hey Jason! If everything were put back together correctly and the top nut that holds the shock/strut assembly to the car was not torqued to spec be creating the problem? The way I see it if the nut was not torqued to spec the spring would be bowed in a little bit because of the extra play/pressure maybe casuing the outer side of the spring coils to become "pinched" ever so slightly! Hope that makes sense!

PROBLEM FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The bump stops were cut too short by the installer! I made some diy bump stops out of es bushings!

Pics:

I used these 2 specific bushings (2 of each). Cut the bushing to the left to get the center portion to match with the bushing to the right:



Put them on the strut shaft like so:

Wow that's good to know. Seems like a fine line--some people are getting noises/harsh ride from the bump stops not being cut enough and you are getting them from being cut too much.

Hmm...

Hmm...

Yes sir! It rides on the bumpstops more often now but I don't care! I'm hoping to get some full coilovers later this year so the springs are a temporary thing!
