H&R springs on my GE8

Last week I finally got around to installing my H&R springs. It wasn't nearly as difficult as the people on this forum make it out to be. In addition to leaving the cowling intact, we removed the outer axle retaining nut to release the axle from the spindle to reduce the threat of the axle disconnecting internally. Total install was less than 3 hrs (using 1 jack & 2 jack stands). The front is now 2.1" lower and the rear is 1.5" lower.

The cornering grip is improved and body roll reduced. The stiffer springs really substantiate the need to get rid of the stock Dunnys. I have to run 42+ lbs of air to keep them from rolling over and playing dead. It's time to move on to a stickier tire.

Anyway, here's a couple of pix:

Thanks for the compliment, EO,

H&R generally does not publicize their spring rates. I asked but didn't get a definitive answer. I am pleased with the increased stiffness and surprised that the ride quality is very good.

This is the only side shot that I have. I put H&Rs on my wife's BSP Fit as well. We also added the Falken RT-7M wheels. (16" x 7" +45 offset). No rub issues with the stock tires. soon to have 205/50-16s. Again, the drop was 2.1" frt & 1.5" rear.

Yes, that is Eddie Izzard on my wife's car. She had Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson) on the rear windows of her yellow MINI previous to getting the Fit.

I got the springs directly from H&R

Personally, I think the ride is quite acceptable. These are progressive rate springs. They are only mildly stiffer in the first 1" of compression and the stiffness ramps up from there. They ultimately offer a huge gain in cornering ability, when pressed. I am willing to sacrifice the high stance, side wind vulnerability and the general wigglin' & jigglin' of the stock suspension for increased stability and all around better handling.
If you really a soft ride like the stock springs offer, stick with them.

etf, your car looks great - how did you get 2.1 and 1.5 drop? i looked on the h&r site and the only springs available for the hit is a 1.6 and 1.3 drop

The only reason that that I can think of as to why my cars are lower is that I didn't put the big thick (about a half inch) rubber insulators back underneath the front springs. The H&R springs have a thin vinyl insulator on the bottom. I figured that was sufficient. The rear springs were installed with the insulators top & bottom. The front is a little low. When I put the 16" x 7" +45 rims on with the 205/50-16 tires I had a rub problem with dips in the road. I got some camber bolts and put -1.5 deg of camber in the front and that improved the rub problem. It will still just barely tick on a hard dip. In retrospect, I should have gone with +48 offset wheels.
I have since added a Progress rear sway bar. That combined with the wider, lighter wheels, the Continental Extreme DW tires, the H&R springs and a proper alignment have transformed Enzo Jr into a really decent handling car. Now if it only had about 60 more HP.

I really can't complain about the ride quality. I am looking to upgrade the shocks. There isn't much of a selection, but I want something that I can adjust so that I can optimize the cornering abilities.

The handling with these springs is very controlled at the limits that I've taken them to. I ran the "Tail of the Dragon" with a group that included: BMW 3 series, WRX, Civic Si, VW GTI, Honda S2K, etc. and all of them will vouch for the handling of my Fit. I think they were very surprised!

Did you have to mod the bump stops or even put them back in?

Edit:
N/M Found the Number for H&R and I dont have to cut the bump stops
