Best size tyres for 15" OE mag wheels?

I need to replace my tyres on a newly purchased GE 2012 Fit , the previous owner didn't bother to rotate the tyres from new so the backs developed uneven wear and when I rotated them to the front they are very noisy, no vibration or other issues apart from the noise.

I'm more interested in comfort and fuel economy than anything else, stock is 175/65 R15 and currently it has 185/60 R15 fitted.
What are people running on their 15" wheels?
Out of interest sake what is the biggest tyre you can safely run on 15" without any rubbing or other issues?

Hello friend, I think you’re not getting responses because you’ve not listed a critical piece of information. I am assuming that you’re using stock wheel sizes which are either a 15x5.5J or 15x6J. The other important piece of information that will tell you what tire size to run is the 5.5 or 6, which corresponds to the width of your wheel/rim. Just to reiterate, the corresponding number on tires is the first three numbers, in the case of the tires you’re looking at are 175 or 185.

Without knowing what wheel width you’re running, its hard to say what size you should be using. If you look up tire width wheel size on google, you might get something like this: https://www.tyresizecalculator.com/c...rim-size-chart

From this we can see that if you’re running a 5.5 wheel, you should get a tire 165 to 195mm for safety. If you’re running a 6 inch wide wheel, then 175 to 205 are the recommended tire sizes.

Also I feel that this might get moved to the tire/wheels forum, as the mods do that to sort posts. I tend to do that and often have to go digging to see where my posts end up. Anyways I hope this helps get you started

Thanks for the good headsup! I was looking for the tire/wheels section, I'll ask the mods to move it
As far as I know the rims are 5.5 ET45, what would happen if I put a 205 tire on that rim?

Will the specs on my rims be on the wheels somewhere?
They are the stock 2012 15" alloy rims

You can identify the wheel size by looking for the markings. On steel wheels they are stamped somewhere but can get rusty and difficult to read. Alloy wheels typically have the numbers stamped on the inside, near the face that mounts to the hub. But there are exceptions.

If a shop is willing to do it, mounting a 205 width tire on a 5.5 wheel will put a lot of pressure on the bead. If you don't do any spirited driving you'll probably be fine, but then there's no point going to a wider wheel as you'll lose fuel efficiency and increase cost. The risk is that you'll put too much lateral force on the bead and a hard turn could cause the tire to fall off the rim.

If you're wanting to go to a 205, it's a better idea to find a new set of wheels to go with it, even if it costs more, as it will be safer.

I think I'm going to go with 185/65/15, going bigger will increase rolling resistance and also possibly affect acceleration, I have a little 1.3 engine.

I went with 185/65/15, it's the perfect compromise between going bigger but not too big, it is noticeably more plush than my old albeit pretty new but trashed tyres.
