Lightbulb Wheel Bands??

I received an interesting ad from College Hills Honda today showing a product that I have not seen before. The lower left photo seems to show an Orange Fit with a color band running around the outside of the rim. If you watch the install video, there is a color chart, but I could not find any listing of car model or wheel diameters for ordering.

The video shows the installer cutting the track to the proper length for an exact fit around the outside dia. of the rim, and cutting the color band for an exact snap fit into the track, so it seems as if you get enough track and band to fit all, or most, Honda OEM wheels and cut to size as necessary.

I don't see how these can "protect against curb rash", but for $25.00 per wheel, they seem to be a fairly nice accent accessory. See the link below:

In my experience over the last five years, shipping charges from College Hills Honda are very high, so the link below might get you lower prices, and see the last coment about Overstock.com carrying this product (free shipping, lowest prices, as long as you like the color choices they carry).

Aha! I did a search, and here is where College Hills Honda gets this product (same price):

Update:

Overstock.com carries four wheel sets of this product for $88.95 with free shipping. Fits 12"-22" wheels (Pay attention to the fitment guide on the wheelbands.com site).

Overstock.com has the silver track sets complete with both black and red color inserts included, and has black track sets with both silver and red inserts.

almost $100!? The same accent can be added to all 4 wheels for a $5 roll of pin stripe tape. It wouldn't protect from curb rash like that product, but it looks better as there is nothing protruding off the rim.

I don't know that the wheel band product is effective against curb rash, but if tape really looked better at 1/20th. of the cost, this product would not have received the high SEMA rating. The most effective protection from curb rash would be not driving into curbs at all, and that's free. Some readers will be interested in these things, and some won't.

An ebay search for rim stripes will result in many options of pre-cut stripes in multiple colors/finishes widths etc. for about $13 shipped, and only take about 15 minutes to install. They however will not protect against curb rash.

They look kind of cheesy to me. As far as curb rash protection, that's good but I don't scrape curbs so…

Personnaly, I think that expecting stick-on plastic rings to protect wheels from damage when running into curbs is riduculous. Learning to drive properly, and not running into curbs doesn't cost a cent. I simply posted info. on a new product that seemed to be interesting, but actually not worth buying.
