Meat

I currently have 215/45-17s and I know I can go to at least 225s. Anyone gone that wide with under 40 offset wheels before?

I'm all about maximum grip and not hella-stance-n-flush trendy crap.

Haha, I run 225's on my GD several times a month for AutoX... It took camber, fender liner flipping, pulling and rear fender rolling. Heck, even with my current setup in the rear, 195 50 15 on a 15x7.5 +32 I rub in the rear with any weight in the car...

I would LOVE to see if you can squeeze 225's onto a GE with no problem... My GF's GE may start AutoX'ing soon too....

If someone could roll my fenders and they not look like garbage I'd likely go for 235s.

Hmm.... Yea, I rolled them myself... the price was right, but in retrospect I would rather pay some one to make it look OEM LOL

A few people in my area will do it for $75-100 a fender...

Are there any speed/performance shops that focus on imports near you?

They can roll your fenders.

What tires are you on in 215? If they're a non extreme summer, that'll make a much bigger difference than width.

Yeah, a lot of import shops nearby, but none that I've seen put out excellent fender rolling, honestly.

I have Hankook Ventus V12s currently. Was thinking of going to two sets of wheels next, with the wider tires as Yokohama A048s for being belligerent around cones.

That's a lot of dough for tires.

I am ALL for being belligerent around cones Just keep in mind though that if your planning to stay in the "class" rules for Street Touring FWD where the Fit seems to be a solid competitor that tires are limited to 225 width and 140 UTQG... You all have great gearing in the GE to run a tire with a 25" diameter.. so on a 17... that would be a 225/45 17... In that size you can run the Hankook RS3

I get a hookup on Hankooks. Which class must I run to be on those A048s?

I also get them for cheap, but they look so much better!

If you're going for AutoX performance, why not a 16x7-8 with a 225/45/16 or something along those lines?

Lighter weight, cheaper tires, etc.

My other consideration there is 6ULs (15s), but more sidewall flex.

Then again, the V12s are known to have super soft sidewalls so I'm not exactly maxing out performance with 17s here.

+1, in fact most people in GE's who are AutoX'ing seem to be planning to throw on 15's for additional weight savings. Also STF is limited to 7.5" wide which sucks for me as I invested in 15x8 +25 12.8 lb Konig's

Hahah, man I wish I had tire hookups!

6ULs are GREAT.... I want a set BAD

Classing for SCCA Solo depends on SO MANY factors, mostly your other suspension mods and such as well. It also depends on the region you run in. I would find your local SCCA chapter and see what they say, my guess though to run those "R comps" on a fit is either SMF or FSP ...

Just signed up for Atlanta Region. Will look into rules and regs and see which class I want to run in and build the car for.

Hmm... if you run 15's with a 225 45 15... that gives you a 23" tire and with your gears and redline that's something like 28-30mph in first and 50-52mph in 2nd... That OUGHT to be plenty for most AutoX courses... I had to bump my redline up to 7K in my GD to do the same LOL

SWEET! One more cone junky like me There are a couple good threads on here with info, but seat time will be the best teacher!

I honestly recommend shooting for Street Touring FWD class. Most basic bolt on mods and 99% of suspension changes are allowed. Also helps you keep tire/wheel costs down. Grass Roots Motorsports mag did an article a few months back, that on paper at least put the GE at the top of the heap for prospective STF competition.

Ah did you end up finding the article?

Get in where you "fit" in, STF.

Keep in mind parking lots and abandoned airfields are hardly the most ideal driving surface. I prefer some midpoint between squirmy wormy and rollerskate wheel in terms of sidewall flex. Also not all 225's are 225mm, some are more (almost 235), you can use that advantage, it's all online though.

I caved and got the $9.99 Black friday subscription LOL That let me see back issues online.... I'm actually attempting to replicate the spread sheet in an excel format to track the progress of my own car against those projected numbers... Can't figure out how they did some of they're math though

If ST class cars could use a 8" wide wheel we would have A LOT of options... Being stuck at 7.5", the 6UL, specifically the genIII, is the best 15" option. There is also the T1R rim from Tire Rack, but for an extra $75 or so the 6UL just weigh less.

SURE I would rather have SSR Comp C in 15x7.5. Try finding a pair some one is willing to part with, then try getting them below $2K for a set that doesn't even have to be pristine...
