Razor Blade In Tire

Yep. That's what they pulled out.

So, the local gas station put a plug in it, but I am worried that it won't hold since it is on the part of the tire that is the "edge" between the tread and the side of the tire.

I've never had to replace a single tire before on any other car. Do I need to get the exact same tire, or just one the same size? Can I just replace the one tire? It seems like I heard something once about always replacing tires in pairs...is this still true? It is a rear tire that has the razor blade issue.

Appreciate any feedback.

If it's on the edge it's not suggested to keep a plug in it and you should replace

You could replace one tire on the same axle as long as the other tire isn't too low in tread. Personally I would replace the other rear tire as well so they can both have the same tread life levels

Thank you. I tried to upload a picture of the tire with the patch, but I am not able to upload pictures.

I would really appreciate if you (or anyone else who know about tires) could click on my name, public profile, and look at the one picture I posted of the tire. I just want to know for sure if it is too close to the edge, or if it might be OK...

That's pretty close to the edge. I'd replace it. Looks like you've got tons of tread so I would just replace the damaged one.

I'm not sure how you patch a long razor blade cut but that looks creative.

Yeah, the tires only have 7,000 miles on them, which is why I was hoping the plug would be sufficient. The puncture was not real big--a little corner of the razor blade apparently broke off and became embedded in the tire.

Thanks for checking out the pic and giving your opinion!

+1

Just replace that tire and you're good.

Here is a further explanation on a safe plug:

Thanks a lot for the feedback.
I made an appointment at the dealership to replace the tire.
Better safe than sorry, I guess...
