3rd Gen GK Specific Fit Engine Modifications, Motor Swaps, ECU Tuning Sub-ForumThreads discussing engine mods/swaps/tuning for the third generation GK Honda Fit.
*** REMEMBER, THIS IS NOT SCIENTIFIC/ACCURATE ... JUST MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS/EXPERIENCE ***
1st group, 16 fill ups = 36.4 mpg avg. the car was in its most basic form. ie, no ktuner, no pedal commander, etc. towards the end of the chart, I was able to achieve 41.9 mpg once thanks to the magic of a "scan gauge 2" and insane hyper mile effort on my behalf. 34 mpg being my WORST. things trended upward as I slowly learned how to drive the car, in a gas efficient manner
06/22/18 = Important Changes To Car:
-Bisimoto Pulse Chamber Exhaust
-Konig Dial In Wheels - 15x7 (light weight)
2nd group, 30 fill ups = 36.9 mpg avg. car now runs a ktuner, no pedal commander. ignore that huge DIP to 27 mpg, that was due to excessive ac usage/idling in Vegas, and valet guys flooring it ... smh. 36 mpg was the worse otherwise. a clear upward trend
07/08/2018 = Important Changes To Car:
-Oil Change
-Techron Fuel Inj Cleaner Bottle
3rd group, 40 fill ups = 36.0 mpg avg. Mpg is all over the place, mainly because I was testing out the Pedal Commander in City mode, vs City -4, City -2, etc. The the take away from this dip in mpg is, the Electronic Throttle Controller made it hard to keep the throttle position low, and as a result, MPG's tanked big time. It did make the car super fun and responsive though! Perhaps the Intake, and other mods played a role?
08/05/2018 = Important Changes To Car:
-Pedal Commander - CITY
-Weapon R Intake
-ISC Coilovers (double the neg camber)
-Big Oil Catch Can
10/09/2018 = Important Changes To Car:
NO PEDAL COMMANDER
Mini Changes:
08/19/2018
PC City -2
08/25/2018
PC City -4
09/23/2018
Rear Diffuser
Front Winglets
09/30/2018
PC City -3
Techron Fuel Inj Cleaner
10/05/2018
PC City -2
Conclusion = The Electronic Throttle Controller has an impact on mpg's. I've found that keeping my TPS (throttle position sensor) on my Scan Gauge at/around or under 20 makes for good mpg. A device like a Pedal Commander, makes that near impossible as the pedal is much more sensative.
The most recent fill ups have experienced a slight upward trend (35.3 -> 35.7 -> 36.7 -> 38.3) when the Pedal Commander was turned off. At this point, I'm not sure how to proceed and what to recommend to others. I love the heck out of my MPG's, but the Pedal Commander really made the car a joy to drive.
I guess the best I can say is:
RECOMMENDED = for those who want a fun, responsive, "fast feeling" car
Not Recommended = for those who care about mpg's

A few more fill ups to add, 2 back to back weekend drives from San Diego to Las Vegas. In NOV, I'll make the same drive to Vegas again, and I'll try turning the Pedal Commander back ON just to see what numbers I return. For now..... enjoy
10/20/18 = Important Changes To Car:
-Tire Pressure = 27 psi ---> 33 psi
10/27/18 = Important Changes To Car:
-Installed Roof Vortex Generators (Shark Fins)
-4 oz of MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil) added to tank
OKAY, back from Vegas. I'll post cliff notes first, and then I'll quote myself from another MPG thread:
-Pedal Commander OFF = GOOD MPG
-Pedal Commander back on, City -4 = Still Good MPG and the car is fun to drive again. CITY -4 appears to be a good blend of FUN to Good MPG
-In a few weeks, I may re visit City -3 and see if I can continue the good numbers, but it is doubtful, as anything beyond City -4 makes TPS hard to control
-COLD weather tanked MPG #s big time, for this Vegas trip. Also did not help that my right foot was more eager this time around ... as most of the drive was 75+ mph
-A simple change to my commute boosted MPG (went from the main I-15 HWY, which is big and open ...and involves a lot of various speeds. traded it for a smaller 2 lane freeway which is more consistent with speed. even with more traf, the new route yields much better MPG)
-Roof Vortex Generators .... appear to do absolutely nothing (shocker)
7 more fill ups, and another vegas road trip on the books. #s improved from 37.6 mpg to 38.1 mpg
*** MAJOR DRIVING HABIT CHANGE - After Work Commute = Avoiding Major Traffic / The I-15 FWY / Driving Much Slower ***
nov 06 - 38.64 mpg (no pedal commander)
nov 11 - 36.99 mpg (no pedal commander, some driving around town in heavy traf due to accidents and misc errands/out of norm driving)
nov 19 - 39.01 mpg (no pedal commander)
nov 23 - 40.01 mpg (Pedal Commander City -4 , Pre Vegas Fill Up)
nov 24 - 37.23 mpg (Pedal Commander City -4 , Arrived In Las Vegas. COLD drive to vegas, perhaps a factor in the poor mpg? Temps in the 60s and 70s.)
nov 26 - 35.77 mpg (Pedal Commander City -2 , Top Off Prior To Leaving Vegas. Always bad mpg around town, and with valet drivers, and it was just a 1 gal top off)
nov 26 - 37.32 mpg (Pedal Commander City -4 , COLD drive home, mostly 40s and 50s... at one point 31F. Google Maps said the drive would take 4 hrs 45 mins, we ended up being almost 30 mins early, due to my right foot and the car going 75-80 mph)
Important Changes To Car:
-Alignment = 11/06/2018 - Toe In 1/8 (FR)
-Oil Change
-Discovered that the Pedal Commander in City -4 = possible to get decent MPG out of, as long as the driver is ultra careful ... and makes the car a bit more "fun" again.
Thoughts On Vortex Generator = So Far ... Not A Damn Difference (YMMV)

That's what I've found too. I can go on the highway that has faster speeds, but is much more dynamic speeds or take a back country road with slower speeds but more consistent speed. The back country road wins every time on my daily commute.
I think with the itty bitty 1.5L, it takes more gas to get the car back up to speed after having to slow down versus just consistently going slower. Too bad the Fit doesn't come in green or we can call it the tortoise.
I chose this life though, I wanted that 3 car garage! a lot of other people down in san diego do it as well (work in town, but live a ways away in the name of cheaper housing/not renting apartments forever).
I've started to consider a throttle controller too. Not so much because of a wish for less delay in accelerating but for getting away the rpm hang after taking the foot off the pedal. I would be glad to hear if an ETC helps with it. Recommendations are also very welcome. I wish to have no control panels or buttons visible, but to keep it hidden under the dash.
I purchased one a few months ago and I am totally happy with the results! It's a must have for these cars for sure. Gets rid of that throttle lag that was built in from the factory. Night and day difference/

Rev hang is an emissions control system controlled solely by the computer - the only way to defeat it is a reprogram/tune.
