Pulled the trigger today and bought a new 2015 LX 6 speed manual .
Has anyone removed their FIT badge on the rear hatch ?
I honestly just don't like it and worst it's a tough spot to wax and keep clean .
I did see that one of our members had a problem and pulled some paint off in the process .
Mine has a manufacturing date of September of last year .
I'am thinking that maybe and hopefully the paint has cured enough to avoid
A paint removal issue .
Any thoughts ?

I've done mine. Use a heat guy to soften the adhesive. Use dental floss pulled towards the back side of the badge to cut through the adhesive. Apply heat and remove remainder of adhesive. Took 10 minutes and was a breeze.

 

Just be sure to save it. The next guy may want it on the car.

 

Fishing line then WD40 and thumb nail. I just used this method to remove the two huge patches of glue from a hood deflector.

 

Or put a couple of neodymium magnets on the back of the badge and you can put it on and take it off as you desire!

 

Lol, and if you can pull hard enough, those neodymium magnets will rip the hatch right off the car.

 

Go slow. I took paint chips right off of mine when I did it. It was two hours old. Oh well, got the first mar out of the way.

 

I'll never understand the idea of debadging a car...its like the owner is ashamed of the name of the car...

Now renaming a Fit to a Jazz is a different story. :-)

I let it bake in the afternoon sunshine and than used several pieces of dental floss .
Next peeled off the gummy adhesive residues useing my fingernails .
Finished by useing some car polish .
Came out great like it was never there !
And I am proud of the FIT .
No shame at all .
Just did not like the look of the badge and the way it traps dirt .

Small ones won't. They come in all sizes and a pair of 1/16x3/8 disk magnets would be perfect for an emblem. It would take a couple of pounds of pull to remove the emblem.

I have a Ford "Police Interceptor" badge that I've put magnets onto and it's great fun to affix it to various cars.

 

Excuse my ignorance, but aren't those badges made out of some kind of plastic/vinyl/PVC material? Honestly I don't know, I never really thought about it.

 

I removed mine w/ floss. I think it looks better without it. I've never been a fan of emblems on cars.

Plus, I can always reinstall it and it will be brand new shiny if I ever decide to sell the car.

They're chrome plated plastic and held on with double sided adhesive. No holes or rivets.

 

Yes, it's fake chrome.
No metal.

Looks good. You just used only floss, no heating? How would you reinstall it? I'm looking to take mine off, I just wasn't sure if it was going to be a permanent debadging.

 

Yeah, just floss. It would probably make it a little easier with heat. Just be patient and slice it off. once it is off it will take some work to rub off the glue boogers. I used rubbing alcohol and a rag to loosen it. I finished it up with auto wax and it looks like it was never there.

I am thinking about painting it black and re-installing it with 3M double sided adhesive tape or Shoegoo or something, but really I think I'll just leave it like it is.

I like it better off.

 

Does it affect insurance at all

What, de-badging? I can't imagine why it would. But if it does, you need to get a new insurance company.

 

I debadged mine but there is still the halo outline of where the FIT used to be. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

 

Did you try wax paste?

I've used Mother's "Billet" mag polish with good results, then followed with wax. The standard Mother's mag polish might be too abrasive, but the billet polish works pretty good to remove minor blemishes in paint.

A clay bar might do it too.
