Intermittent Wiper Conversion
Intermittent Wiper Conversion
I have this project in the back of my mind - converting my windshield wipers to adjustable intermittent operation. My son's 2019 has a rotating control for the intermittent wipers. My 2015 is just one speed. I wonder if switching the control stalk would be do-able. Rotating the collar on the stalk changes the frequency of wiping, so that should be the only change I would have to make. I wonder if I would have to remove the steering wheel. Oh, well. I have enough to keep me busy for a while. This might be a project for the spring.
Good Luck.
I admit when I test drove my 2016 Fit, I asked the sales person if it had intermittent wipers, and he said Yes.
Semantics and not really a lie. But I guess I should of said does it have "adjustable" intermittent wipers.
Because I was disappointed when I found out it doesn't.
However, I've just lived with it. It actually really isn't a problem most of the time. And I have found I like the feature where you can just bump the stalk up and cause the wipers to cycle once. In other words "I" become the adjustable intermittent wipers.
I have no idea about the viability of your project. But if you attempt it and succeed or fail I'd be interested in the results.

EDIT: I haven't found the switch yet, but a new wiper motor will cost you over $500.

EDIT: The switch is under $50.

Well I had an early 1990's Honda Accord ( great vehicle) and if I remember right it had adjustable REAL variable intermittent wipers.
So I think the absence of such on my 2016 Honda Fit has much more to do with the Fit being Honda's "entry level" Honda than it does with it being a Honda itself.
I suppose decisions are made. And it's sometimes strange what is invested into, and what becomes cost cutting measures.
I can't believe making the wipers adjustable intermittent wipers would really add that much to the cost of the vehicle in either parts infrastructure and/or labor in assembly. So I'm surprised by it's exclusion.
I might be wrong, but I can't imagine it would add more than $100 to the total cost of the vehicle. Something I think most buyers would easily pay, or simply not notice if rolled into the total cost of the vehicle.
I'm nitpicking but I would of liked adjustable wipers.
And I think Honda could install much better quality carpet. That spray on peach fuzz they call carpeting, is not very durable, does little for noise reduction, and I think should be upgraded.

OEM intermittently adjustable switch?
The part reference below reveals a windshield wiper switch assembly, (Which apparently does not fit my Gen2 Fit), but nowhere in the diagram/description are the words, "intermittently adjustable" or something to that effect.
Anyone able to shed light on this? How about an aftermarket switch assembly - anyone have any experience with that?

Right. It isn't a necessity, but Honda is the only car maker I've come across that has intermittent wipers that aren't adjustable. That goes back to my 1980 Civic. If I do this, I'll post pictures. First, I'll have to check the price.
