2015 LX CVT: the driver's seat has to go
 

Love the new Fit. I got the yellow one. But the seat has been hard on me. I'm 6'1" and after 1.5 months I've been experiencing lots of back problems.

So I'm thinking of pulling the driver's side seat and replacing it with either a new aftermarket seat or something from an old car at the junkyard. I'm handy with tools but I've never performed this particular operation before.

It sounds like it's 4 bolts to take out the seat and rails. What about the air bag?

Any recommendations for comfortable aftermarket seats?

Will I need to buy new rails? Any recommendation for rails that will fit?

Will the air bag likely be a problem?

And the $64K question... is it possible to get more leg room somehow?

Hello Alan,
The issue that you've mentioned with the front seats / leg room & driver comfort have been discussed.
There looks to be a simple retro-fit solution.
Many GK Fit owners complain of the feeling of sliding or slipping in the seat under light to moderate braking. Also of leg fatigue during prolonged driving spells.


The solution is to "Tilt" the front of the seat upwards about 3/4" using spacers. This added tilt relieves the stress at the back of the knee and lower back.


The idea of making a set (4) brackets about 1.5" long attach these brackets to the factory seat mount points and then attaching the seats to these brackets letting the seats set rearwards an additional 1.5"


There is a thread with photos of these spacers installed.

As HermTDI said, and if you are handy with tools, try raising the front one inch, you'll also naturally gain some leg room with the new angle. Link to my mod is in my signature and here. It made a huge difference for my back and overall comfort.

Seat tilt mod
 

I did the seat tilt mod. I am 6 ft 2 inches and it worked well for me. I felt like I was sliding off before. This mod is worth doing. Thanks for the info.

One thing to consider before you do a seat swap... the side torso airbags are in the seat so you'll lose that.

You'll still have the head curtain airbags but no torso protection.

I am not 6'1, I am 5'6 and not over weight. I too bought a yellow Fit just yesterday, and by the end of that day, my back was hurting too. Not likely I could find someone, let alone a retro seat to swap out on a brand new car. Funny this issue is never mentioned in all the reviews and videos, I might have re-considered if I had seen it is the issue it seems to be.

Everybody really is personalized. I traded in my '09 Fit for a new '15 and I love it. The seats are, for me at 6'4" far more comfortable than the ones in my '09. I wouldn't trade them for the world.

Thanks Mica.... my experience was just the first day. Your response gives me encouragement it may just be a temporary situation.

Besides the washers under the front points try the gas pedal mod for leg fatigue
