This thread is for those of you who would like to install aftermarket (Nardi, Momo, Sparco, Grip Royal, etc..) steering wheels to GK series Fits. I personally used a Spoon GK5 Hub which is the same as Works Bell's 226 or 226S.

Tools Required:
-3/8" Rachet with extension
-3/8" 10mm Socket
-3/8" T30 Socket
-3/8" 10mm HEX 6pt Socket
-1/2" to 3/8" Converter
-1/2" Impact with extension
-Flexible Small Ruler
-Exacto Knife
-Sharpie Marker
-Needle Nose Plier
-3mm Hex key (not pictured)



Procedure:

Step 1: Disconnect negative battery terminal with 10mm socket, then wait 10 minutes for car to completely discharge.



Step 2: Remove two T30 bolts from both sides of steering wheel.





Step 3: Gently pull air bag assembly towards you but be careful not to tug on the connectors and wires.



Step 4: Disconnect the two connectors on the airbag assembly by using the needle nose plier to gently pry on the white part of connectors. Disconnect the horn connector (orange wire) and the connector for steering wheel control (large white connector)



Step 5: Using the 10mm HEX 6pt socket, 1/2" to 3/8" adaptor, 1/2" extension , and impact gun remove the bolt in the center of wheel. You CAN try with 3/8" rachet but unless you are the HULK, Ultraman, Superman, or any choice of super hero, this bolt will NOT budge. A huge breaker bar may also work.



Step 6: Without removing the steering wheel, use a small, flexible ruler or straight edge to align the two marks on the top and bottom of steering wheel. Using an Exacto knife etch into the spline where dead-center is. Follow up by using a Sharpie marker to make it more visible. Remove steering wheel.





Step 7: Attach the supplied resistor cables into the grey plug (edit: and the green plug, I need to order another resistor and reset SRS light) for the air bag, and the white connector into where the steering wheel control connector was attached.



Step 8: Slide the Spoon/WB hub into the spline making sure the top center mark is aligned with the Sharpie marks, and pull all the wiring through the back of hub. Using the impact gun, make sure the bolt is nice and secure. (mine is three clacks tight)



Step 9: Attach steering wheel to hub using 6 hex bolts and 3mm hex key.



Step 10: Attach the horn wire to the horn button. Nardi horn buttons act as a ground by attaching to the hub itself. For other aftermarket wheels, please read the instructions supplied.



Step 11: Attach horn button to hub making sure the logo is in correct orientation. Reconnect negative terminal on battery, reset clock and ENJOY!

 

If I said I didnt get the idea of the omamori charm location from you, I'd be lying. But thats crazy that you have a cat too hahahaha

hi, thanks for posting this step by step.
i have a few questions though if you don't mind.

- on the white connectors, did you remove all the wires that is attached to it?
- did your eps steering warning light went on? cz mine did.
- where did you get the 2 orange wires for the horn button? also, did you just connected it to the white connectors?

Don't forget to let your insurance know that you purposely removed the airbag.

 

I like it..but, i'd like it more if you found a way to mount the audio and cruise controls on the aftermarket wheel with F1 inspired buttons...

How long u been driving like that any changing in the steering feel

 

it comes on for a few days, then it goes away for a few days. its totally random

the steering feel does feel more .... "loose". will be taking it to a shop to have a pro look at it, soon ish

 

So is the eps light from no longer having the steering wheel controls connected? Would another resistor solve this problem?

 

in my case ..... it didnt read the manual where chilton says to NOT smack the wheel back on

i must have broken some stuff

i had to order a few sensors that lived behind the horn ..... car is finally back to normal

Also did you use the spoon hub, if so did you add a second resistor and if so what impedance? Thanks again man!

a few dollars to buy a new sensor, and the shop charged me $95 for labor to fix it

I did not use the spoon hub, just a simple wheel off ebay (replica of the buddy club wheel), and did not play with resistors/did not need resistors

 

There is a company that makes a billet piece that attaches to the hub that the cruise and audio controls hook up to so you can put on an aftermarket wheel. It looks really good too but for the life of me, I can't remember the name of the company. It is made for the 9th gen civic actually but they both use basically the exact same wheel so it works. I will start searching to find it if no one knows off the top of their heads
