Seriously.
In my 08 fit I once loaded a pallet of calendars (worked at a print shop) weighing about 1,000 lbs. This seemed like a smart idea until a tire blew out the side wall with a huge bubble haha. Lesson learned. Just because it fits doesn't mean it's a good idea.

I wouldn't now, but probably would have tried then. Then again, we put a full size refrigerator in an integra hatchback, a 15' inflatable boat + 50hp outboard motor + fishing gear into a rav4, we were really cheap back then. Renting a truck was never even considered hah.

Maybe that's what I like about the Fit the most. It's magic seats configurations and the flat load floor.
I have "almost" never needed more hauling capacity, with what I would call regular routine life.
The Fit represents to me something we don't embrace. Using the right tool for the job. We buy and drive big SUV's to haul the same things we could haul, in a Honda Fit.
I think literally with both my 2010 and 2016, about 6 years of ownership, I might of had 2 instances where I needed a friend with a bigger vehicle OR to rent a truck.
Every other challenge the Fit has met easily.
I have "almost" never needed more hauling capacity, with what I would call regular routine life.

I have a 2015 EX and am always amazed by all the stuff I can put in it. Full PA system and backline plus assorted stands,guitars and amps..Yep! But recently it was a 7' Christmas tree plus groceries! That was funny..

I have owned two 1987 AWD Honda Civic Wagons. I would consider them to be the predecessors to the Honda Fit and The HR-V. They would really hold a lot of stuff. The rear seats folded into many different configurations and could even be removed. The front seats would move so far forward, they could be folded flat with the rear seat backs and it could be used like a bed. 8' long on the passenger side and 7.5' on the driver side. I have carried items from 8' lumber, with the hatch closed to 100# propane bottles. I was really impressed with the AWD and the 6 speed transmission. It had an SL (super low) with 1 thru 5 gears. I mainly drove it in the winter and it never left me stranded. I wasn't impressed with the power it had or that that year had a solid rear axle. The engine it had was the D15A motor. 1488cc 3 barrel with only 75 HP. It got very poor gas mileage. One good thing about the low HP is it wouldn't spin the tires very easily. 18" snow were no problem as long as you could put up with the constant scraping noise of snow under the car. It really was freaky, but never any damage. The following Generation Honda changed the body style, engine and went to four wheel independent suspension. They did removed the Magic seats though. NHTSA thought having a vehicle that allowed someone to sleep on one side while someone drove the car was not very safe. Bungee cords or ratchet straps could have solved that problem, ha ha.
