My son's 2020 Fit will need new tires, and I'm starting to look now. I'd like good mileage - both gas and tread. If you have any recommendations, I'd be glad to hear them.

In the past, I've bought them mail order and had a local guy install them, but he's retired. I don't want to bring them to a tire seller to have the tires put on the wheels. : )

I think they are a huge improvement over stock, but I did lose 2 or 3 MPG.

 

I'm very happy with Yokohama Avid Ascend GT. Way quieter than the stock tires. I don't know if my mileage has improved but they are low rolling resistance tires.

Consumer Reports didn't love them but I'm very happy with them.

 

I swapped mine to factory sized Michelin. A much better brand than Firestone.

 

Get General Altimax 365 AW or Vredestein Quatrac, both with 3 peak snow ratings, for all-weather performance. Climate change means you may have to worry about snow where you didn’t before, like Texas.

 

I hate to say it, but Walmart has by far the best tire prices, like a difference of over $100 per set. With the snow tires on the car, I won't have to start shopping till the spring or late winter.

The Falken Pro G5 A/S are the best tires I've ever had. 205/50/R16

I've been using continental CONTROL CONTACT TOUR A/S PLUS tires for the last year and a half on my 2017 lx. Driving my fit through snow and ice feels like a tank in the winter. Rated for 80k miles, I've put on 10k so far. Highly recommend.

 

I would also recommend Michelin or Goodyear. My experience of Michelin is that although it may be little expensive, it will give much better thread mileage than other brands. So at the end it gives more miles per $. It also has low noise and handles stable.

 

+1 for the Avid Ascend GTs. They were recommended by my dealer and I got them for a better price at a local tire shop. Full set and I've very happy with them.

 

Yes, they are good. I've used them before. The local Mavis has tires, but they charge extra to balance and install them. That's a new one for me. Walmart has low prices but really bad reviews.

They are the best tire for wet I have ever owned, with $$$ Bridgestone Potenza something-or-others coming in a close 2nd.

 

Of course it is all about the preferences. Continentals may have decent handling, but they are relatively soft tires, meaning they will wear fast and increase fuel consumption.

 

I had General Altimax RT43 that I upsized to 205/50 on my EX. Good tires and got about 50k on them and still had 3/32 on them before replacing with General GMAX.

 

Just being curious: where are your General tires made in?
I really like it that tires still have that "Made in XXX" stamp on them, so that I can avoid undesired countries of origin.

 

Michelin Defender T+H are excellent tires. I live in the high desert and drive up to Big Bear to enjoy the snow, and even on wet, sanded roads they are very grippy. Also, while not obvious, the large circumferential grooves not only prevent hydroplaning, they allow the tire to dump heat on hot desert roads. Gas mileage is ~ 1 mpg better, but at high speeds next to Jersey Rail in construction zones or semi trucks they are absolutely rock solid.

VS the stock Nitrogen filled tires, they have a lot more road feel, but at higher freeway speeds they are smooth and secure. Noise is slightly less, but the tires are more "crisp" handling - less spongy, so a nice bit of engineering magic there.

Driving back from Las Vegas, from Baker to Victorville on I-40 and I-15 I hung out with a group of pickup trucks coming back from a car show in Vegas. We averaged ~ 95mph. I never at any time felt the vehicle was out of control or pushing the edge of its performance envelope.

Hot roads dramatically increase tire wear, so the 80,000mi tread wear was a big plus. I will never wear out these tires. I'm retired and although we do long vacation trips in the FIT, I have no daily commute, so have only put 35k in 5yrs on the FIT. I rotate front-back each spring when I change the Mobil 1 15k oil (I know, overkill, but it costs next to nothing to have that overkill, so worth it to me)

Bought mine through TireRack because CostCo sold out their entire stock in a few days when they put them on sale and a sidewall cut on the OEMs meant I needed tires ASAP. There was a list of local tire stores to choose from to mount the tires. It took them ~ 15 minutes. A great way for a local store to offer great, name-brand tires without $100s of thousands in inventory costs. It's a smart biz model.

 

I put General Altimax on my 2012 recently. Unfortunately Costco was out of all non-snowtires, and I had a bulge and couldn't wait, so I certainly paid enough for new tires at the local tire chain. Good tires though. Nice ride quality. So far, holding up okay in the snow as well.

 

I have General Altimax Arctic winter tires (studded) and I'm very happy with them. Had them for several years. My summer tires are still the OEM Firestone and it'll be a while before those get replaced.
