Selling my 2016 EX (NY area) and saying goodbye

Hi Fit Folks. I've been here for over a decade, first with my 2010 and then my 2016. I've learned a lot and I hope I've shared at least as much wisdom, and humor. I've loved both my Fits but it's time for me to move on. I've joined the cult and bought at EV.

Selling my 2016 Fit EX CVT. 61,000 miles. Includes real spare (plus the donut spare), Inno roof rack, cargo cover, new (last year) Yokohama Avid Ascend GT tires (they're way better than the OEM tires), new front brakes and rotors. Made in Japan, one owner, no accidents, never smoked in, no pets (although my friend's seeing-eye dog may have been in the car a couple of times).

$15,000.

Nice Fit, it should make its next owner very happy.

What EV did you buy?

Tesla Model Y. I didn't want a Tesla but with more access to charging (at least when I ordered it) plus longer range, plus less expensive than other EVs...

Sadly, with Fits no longer being sold in North America this board is slowly shrinking.

Happens to all models that have gone out of production.
Luckily, these members have contributed countless threads of information to assist those of us who decide to keep their older vehicles

That's a great price, less than what I paid for my '15 w/ identical mileage, last Sept.. Made in Japan? How'd you score that? I thought they were made in Mexico.

It's a fair price, yes. The 2016s were imported from Japan, I think because they had to shut down the Mexican factories for flooding or something like that.

Yes, there was one year where the factory was damaged by flooding and they moved Fit production to Japan for that one year. A good year to buy a Fit!

Yes, I believe it was the 2017 which was made in Japan. A very few from that year might have been made in Mexico.

I remember being very disappointed when I bought my 2018 that they had already moved manufacture of that model year back to Mexico. At least 2018 was a slightly redesigned version.

Okay, then some 2016 were made in Japan and others weren't. I know mine is Japanese from the vin #.

I have a '16 LX with J-vin. Here's what my memory banks tell me.

When Honda built the Celaya, Mexico factory to make the Fit for the US market, they had problems from day one:

--Severe QC issues (brake rotors not properly annealed, sagging bumpers & trim, etc)

--Massive theft from the rail lines going in and out of the factory. Honda had to hire security guards to make sure their product got through safely. This caused huge delays in shipment, as new parts were being stolen destined for new cars, and those cars couldn't be made until all parts were in.

--Cultural misunderstandings and language barriers meant Honda wasn't really doing the job it was supposed to do in Celeya.

--As a result, several top Honda executives involved either got fired and severely demoted, I can't remember.

The Celaya situation did not sit well with Honda HQ. They felt the only way to bring back some sense of order was to tool up the Japan factory again, get the Fit on its feet, so to speak, and then resume production in Mexico.

So far, my J-vin Fit has been reliable except for two things: Condenser went out after warranty expired ($ on me), and the fuel injector / rail early failure issue, replaced (no charge) under extended warranty at 88K.

I've listed the car on Craigslist and facebook and I've gotten dealers telling me to come in, people who try to sell me some sad story about why they need a car but can't pay nearly enough for it, and people telling me it's worth much less. Those people send screenshots from valuation pages but of course I know that they checked the 'poor' condition box to do that.
KBB shows a lower price than the other sites. Edmunds is more and Consumer Reports says it could be worth as much as $17k- and that seems way too much.
If I don't sell it this week I'll try ebay motors.

As far as I know it's still a seller's market but there's no shortage of people who will try to chisel you down so that they can flip it themselves for a quick profit. Be firm, be patient.

Thanks. Yeah, used car prices are nuts. And I'm in no hurry. I can afford to wait and I can fit two cars in my driveway.

I have a 2016 from Japan. Some where made in Mexico and others Japan. I remember searching for a VIN prefix of J. But who knows, maybe I was lied to back then. LOL.

Congrats on your sale!!
I hope you got what you wanted. My son has a ‘16 - original owner with similar mileage that has been bulletproof.
