Anyone bought a set of new tires recently?
Anyone bought a set within the last year? If so, how much did they cost? I haven’t had to buy tires in a while so I'm blown away by how much they cost. Just want to make sure I get the best price that I can.
Discount Tire.
Go to your local Discount Tire shop.
I bought a set of Yokohama Avid Ascend GT tires two years ago.
Cost was a bit north of 400 dollars. Free tire pressure check and tire rotation. I got the extended warranty. Flat tire repair if possible and tire replacement.

You can thank banks and private equity for that. They've mostly gone to an AI pricing model much like Amazon which takes in a pool of data and sets as high of a price they can based on location, demand, your buying habits, etc. People don't care about privacy as much anymore but it's being used to eat their bank accounts. Whatever.
Anyways, I usually use tire rack or walmart. Recently bought fronts from Tire-Rack- Yokohamas, high tread wear (700+) and they've been great tires (used to run in Philadelphia a lot with those also). 126 a piece + shipping & installation. The commensurate retail option from Mavis which I got for the rears offered a 200 lower treadwear rating at about 4-5 dollars extra. Not very pleasing... So yeah, keep shopping online if you can. Who knows, maybe give it a false location in the slums and it might give you a few bucks off. It's you vs the computer now. Good luck out there.

$800 yikes
We replaced the original tires with Sumitomo HTR A/S P03. They're grippy and long-wear at 640 A A, and under $100/tire in 185/55R16.
About 5k miles in, no complaints so far.

I bought a set of Falken Pro G5 A/S tires at a local Discount Tire back in December 2022. The tires were $107 each, and the total came to $570 with all the other stuff added in (I didn't do the replacement certificates). Anyway, I've been very happy with them.. they always rode smooth, and I'm still riding on them today. Just did my last (probably) rotation on them a couple weeks ago. I don't recall how many miles I've put on them, but my 5 day a week commute is ~72 miles round trip, and the car has been on a few longer trips (~700-1200 miles) since I got them. I've had Falken tires on 3 or 4 of my previous cars (93 Nissan Pickup, 00 Ford Expedition, 05 Nissan Sentra <- I think, 15 Hyundai Accent) and I've always been happy with them. I probably would have gotten another set of the Pro G5s this Fall, but they've discontinued that model. Might look into the ZIEX ZE950 A/S this time around. It's on Discount's site right now for $85 per tire.
I know that they're expensive (I think that I paid around $750 at Discount Tires with my AAA discount almost a year ago) but I second the Yokohama Avid Ascend GT. This tire was one of a few that were recommended to me on this forum and I LOVE these tires. They're quieter, they're more secure both dry and wet. I've really liked them. I've put approximately 12k miles on in one year.

I would be a little careful about buying a tire that appears to be exclusive to one retailer (even if it's a big chain). We had a road-hazard failure with one tire of a set we bought from DT and there was no buying just one at that point because they quit marketing them and there was none of our size in the warehouses. Maybe the Avid Ascend GT is close enough that you could match it in this case. And I'm guessing a lot of drivers simply don't care. We were close enough to the end of life of the tires that we just decided to get new tires all around but I made sure these were available from more than one retailer.
i dont like to pay more than 100 CAD a tire....and i have a lot of round, black, not great tires i am used to driving on.....sad face. I am at 70,000 kms and will shortly be in the market for tires...is anyone running other "cheaper" sizes?...its a bit of an oddball 185/55-16

I haven't taken the opportunity to properly characterize their snow performance, beyond a few unsatisfying slow-speed parking-brake slides in the driveway. Traction control/VSA was on, so the car was probably actively fighting my nonsense - "Please release the parking brake!". Tire Rack puts them in an all-season category, so they're at least "safe" for winter conditions. Also, they're manufactured in Japan, so should be unaffected by the orange man's games.
$54 a tire
I have used the Sentury Touring tires from Discount Tire on my 2015 Fit. Less than $300 for a complete set including labor cant be beat. Ive had the tires since 2020 and they have been just fine. I bought them $54/per tire back then and the price is the same now in 2025.
On new years eve I bought Vredestein Quatrac tires all around for my 2017 LX. I was a little reluctant to buy such an aggressive snow/all season tire because it hardly ever snows around here, but the very reputable shop recommended them, so I went with it. In the next few days we had a heavy snow, and they really performed well. I have now driven them in snow, rain and dry weather. They have exceeded the OEM tire dramatically. The handling and braking improvement are very noticeably. On the alignment, which I had to take it back for, the rear toe in was off (0.35 degrees), and as you know, it is not adjustable. I consulted the installers (Radial Tire Company in Silver Spring, MD), and they will be installing a .2 degree SPC toe in/out adjust plate from Summit Racing for the GK series Fit. I have the 10 year warranty, but it would tough fight to get Honda to replace the rear axle for an error that small. The part is only $10 and you just have to remove the rear brake assembly. I'm very happy with the tires, and I'm very happy with the shop. The tires were $112.77 each. With stems, balance and disposal fee, and tax it came to $606.06. Road hazard was free, and unlike the dealer, they patch, not plug. I can plug a tire myself and have done it many times. Alignment cost $95 which I thought was very reasonable. They will be doing my wife's car shortly.

The type of tires you want to buy depends on how you drive and how much you really want to pay. So, here is the history of my tire purchased after the Firestone OEM that wore out after over 40K miles. All tires bought at my local Discout Tires, including installation and balanced and free rotations. Current ODO is 154K miles on the 2017 Fit LX.
