Here was the return to SoCal, average mileage of 40.0 mpg. Gas purchases calculated to within one mpg. Desert temps were up to 111 degrees F. Used cruise control as much as possible, usually 70 mph. Engine winds up as you hit a rise to maintain the speed, but it was smooth and did not detract from the experience. AC worked very well, #2 setting with recirculate at coldest setting held things very comfortable in the front seats.

I will take this average mileage across a couple of mountain ranges with 7000 to 7500 ft passes. :nod:

40mpg is a stellar result, taking into account you had the A/C on and cruised at 70mph. EX rated at 38mpg hwy.
Its looking that Honda has again been slightly pessimistic on gas consumption numbers. A big plus for us retail buyers.:D:D:D

Awesome to see these calculations, but not sure what I'm doing wrong/different. Been avg. 26-27 mpg over the last 4-5 days. Haven't taken actual measurement since I haven't fueled up once yet (purchased Sat. 6/28, the filled tank). My typical day is to work and back, mostly freeway at 65-70 mph for about 7-8 miles. I've run a few errands just to vary the driving conditions in the car, but still no go on 35+ mpg. Never mashing on the gas, have even gone without A/C for some of the trips.

That's what I'm getting, 27-28, except I have no freeway, and the most i'm going is 40mph on average. about 20 miles every day.

Driver/passenger weight? We're pushing the high end in ours, so I chalked it up to that, but wondering why you're getting the same with seemingly optimal conditions compared to us?

The amount of weight you are carrying in your fit will have a significant impact on fuel economy. This is just an educated guess, but I would say each 100 pounds probably reduces fuel economy by about 1 mpg in city driving. It would have much less effect on highway driving unless you were going up and down steep grades. But it would not be unheard of for a fit that is carrying 500 pounds more than another will get at least 5 fewer mpg.

Tire pressures can have a 2-3 mpg effect, so make sure that your tires are at least at the recommended pressures or greater. Better yet about 5-10 pounds above factory recommendations for best fuel economy.

And the the most significant effect would be how you drive and how often you must brake. Think of it this way, every time you brake, you are reducing your average fuel economy by a tenth of a mpg. Every time you can coast to a stop, rather than brake to a stop, you will see that your fuel economy average will increase by a tenth.

Got the Fit about two weeks ago, I really like it.
Here's what I'm getting...

Trip A. Full tank from dealership. I drove average 70mph average range. No AC. 85% driving was on highway. I drove until the gas lit on.

Current trip. 70mph with 50% eco mode and AC. 85% of driving was on highway. Still have 2 bar notches on gauge.

Picked up my EX/CVT on Sat. 6.28. Averaging exactly 40.0 mpg with mixed city and highway driving. AC about two-thirds of the time. Not hearing any kind of fan noise to cool the engine when parked with the engine running. Is that normal?

You mean 38mpg with a/c on constantly? If I can hit 35mpg when my LX M/T finally is delivered, that would translate to 7mpg better than the best I could ever make my GD do. Am thinking 30mpg is reality for me with our somewhat hilly terrain. Great results and congrats/welcome to GK ownership.

Another pleasing MPG reported w/ A/C on. Guess the FF GK owners from Texas are giving themselves a big pat on the back too. Its boiling down there!!!

As for your fan, if your temp gauge is normal don't worry about the fan going on or off. Can't remember when I heard that go on either w/ my former GD, previous FJ and wife's RX. The fan's temp sensor will turn it on if needed.

I had the AC on only when I use the econ mode, which has been half of my driving this week.

30mpg is probably reachable. My coworker has a Sonata, he says he gets about 28mpg driving up hill most of the time. The Fit is rated far more mpg.

Gaslight came on two notches left on the fuel gauge. Drove to one notch and the beep then refueled. Tank took 8.029 gallons so it still should have had about two gallons left? 340 miles from the first tank (dealer). Electronics indicate avg. 40 mpg. Mostly AC, flat Central Ohio terrain, mixed city and highway.Highest avg. drive was I-71 between Columbus and Mansfield at 47 mpg, all AC. Getting 40 mpg routinely in Columbus with a light foot.

How does one drive uphill *most* of the time if one isn't in a M.C. Escher painting? :confused: :)

So I don't see much mention of the Eco button. Are people getting better results with it on? I always do in my Toyota because it minimizes acceleration and makes it easier to maintain a speed.

Most of these MPG reports have me excited about the potential of my future purchase. I am definitely ready to go north of 19 MPG.

Good question. I've wondered how much difference it makes.

My prediction is that it makes exactly zero difference. Testing on the .CR-Z revealed that that the Econ button actually hurt fuel economy. On the CRz it significantly dulls the throttle response.

The car is certainly a lot more responsive and fun to drive with it off.

I hope someone can do some extensive control tests to see how much of a difference it makes. Right now i'm in the habit of switching it on and off, depending on whether or not I anticipate the need to be able to accelerate fast... like entering the onramp of a highway or passing somebody quickly and changing lanes.

I think I've got some good news for you! After about 200 miles in my LX MT, my MPG is shown as 40.8 on the dash. This is about 70% hwy with A/C on all the time.

Not only is this good news, now know I made the right decision last Feb. in placing my deposit. Since you younger guys can control your bodies better than I can, I forecast my gas foot can at least achieve 35mpg with the a/c on - okay our rolling roads - 33mpg. Cops here are pretty stiff on speeding and I hardly ever go over 70 mph. Its usually 60 - 65.

Fillup today 36.4, 203 miles approx 40 miles is intown driving 1 mile at a time to work and back. Rest is 55mph rural driving. AC on 100% of time
