2015 Fits Shipping from Mexico

That the Fits are being produced in Mexico is not news. They are being built at a brand new plant Honda put up in Celaya, Mexico.

While poking around on the web, to see where Celaya is in Mexico (turns out it is a bit northwest of Mexico City), I also looked at what Pacific coast ports might be getting used by Honda to ship cars to the west coast of the USA. One of the likely ports is at Lazaro Cardenas. After finding a website for the Port Authority, they have a photo gallery (galeria in Spanish)..... Guess what shows up.. You will need to scroll down a ways, but on the right side you will find a familiar looking car.

Galeria

A strong indication that the 2015 Fits are shipping thru Lazaro Cardenas, to the west coast for the US market. Looks like the rail journey from Celaya to Lazaro Cardenas isn't exactly a straight shot. The route is very winding and mountainous. Fits for the eastern and central USA travel other routes.

Sorry I was unable to just post the picture, but I quess as a new member, that is limited.

That photo has been on the net for some time. Honda ships on the East Coast from the port of Veracruz to several US ports with Brunswick GA identified as one of the major ports. For the West Coast they do use the port of Lázaro Cárdenas shipping to San Diego and ports north. They contracted with a company named MOL to ship from both ports. A week ago a MOL ship did leave Veracruz for Brunswick but so far nothing to San Diego. West Coast deliveries thus far have been by rail and have been very sparse. Honda has special rail cars that can hold 22 Fits and they have 400 rail cars. Shipments are straight from the factory North into the US.

There are reports of hundreds of 2015 Fits sitting in the Port of Portland next to a rail line but not sure why there are so few at dealers. The largest dealer in Oregon has so far only received 6 Fits.
