Test drive impressions and leg room
Test drive impressions and leg room
I just got back from a test drive. It was an EX-L Fit. I had my heart set on manual as my cars have all been stick shift, but wanted to test drive the new Fit and there are no MTs in my area.
I was very impressed by the CVT transmission. To me it felt just like an automatic, but I have limited experience with cars other than my old Ford Ranger. The paddle shifters were very responsive and in Sport mode the gear won't change until you redline from my understanding. It was very fun to drive, although the steering wasn't "sporty" like I would assume the older Fit would be. Felt pretty standard.
My biggest concern is the leg room. I am 6' 1" and have long legs, 32" inseam if not more. I felt like I barely fit in the car, and the moonroof definitely cut into my headroom. I tried a Civic for comparison, and it had more than ample leg room, which makes me think that I might not be comfortable in the car. I am going to take more test drives in the future before I purchase a vehicle, but if I don't fit then I don't Fit, get it?
Thanks for reading. Any other people having problems with the leg room?
p.s. The CVT really surprised me! Go test one!

I am 6' with 34 inseam, i find no problem with room but do have the seat all the way back. Headroom I find confusing because i dont have any issues. I suppose if you sit directly straight up their would be an issue bit who does that? I always have my seat reclined a little bit anf that makes all the difference in the world.

Does anyone know if the 2013s have more leg room for the driver than the 2015s?
I have the feeling that a manual would feel different because of how I sit to use the clutch, I tend to relax and sprawl out more on an automatic, and with a manual I sit with my legs in more, ready to work the pedals.
not lowered all the way, was all the way back. I will try again with the seat lowered and different positions. I think the manual version might feel better, hopefully I can try one sometime soon.

Something is wrong here. I'm 6'3" and my leg room is just fine and as far as the head room, I have about 3 inches clearance from my head to the moonroof. You know, you do have a height lever on the drivers seat that one can adjust the height don't you ? I even lifted mine up and still have plenty of head room. And don't forget the telescoping steering wheel that pulls out as well.
I think I'm not used to a regular lower car. I have a truck at the moment. Next test drive I am going to mess with the height and seat position a little more. I wasn't hitting the ceiling, but I definitely noticed how little space I had.

Preferring a manual is legit, but comparing a CVT from 16 years ago to a brand new one today is not legitimate...
UPDATE:
I went on another test drive and it turns out that the seat was cranked all the way up when I previously tried one out. When the seat cranks up it also cranks forward. There is way more leg room than I had thought, pretty great actually. Now the only thing is testing an actual manual tranny

I'm so glad I found this thread. I'm 6'5", 32" inseam and was really worried about legroom and headroom. I want a fit, it would be my first as I've driven a jeep liberty sport for the past 6 years, but I really didn't want an LX. It's too bad they won't sell an Ex without the moonroof. Once these bad boys arrive in Canada I'll be one of the first to test drive. It's nice to think I'll fit into a Fit.
With the seat lowered how much headroom do you guys have? I always measure by fingers on my head. In my jeep I have 4 fingers high of clearance.

Have three fingers between head, and moonroof which is comfortable for me, but I can still crank it down for more head room if I want. What you have to do for your height is wait it out until they arrive and play with the lever and seat slider.

Did you see my update? I'm dumb and didn't see that the seat was jacked all the way up. It's roomy, you need to test drive one!
Haha yes I did, that's what gave me hope. I'm really hoping this car will be comfortable for long commutes.
Test drive! Test drive!
I was really worried when I first read this thread but I'm glad that the height adjuster push the seat backwards as it does in many other cars, because we have a 2009 Fit and legroom is clearly an issue for me (6'3''). There is still the problem of the big turning radius and the too short ratio transmission but I'll see with a test drive if it's really problematic or not I guess.

Next question, how difficult is it to use the height adjuster? This will be an issue with me because I'm tall and my wife isn't! Is it an easy adjustment like moving the seat back and forth, or does it take more effort than it's worth?
