Smile 2015 Fit LX 6-speed - First impressions

After 48 hours with my new Fit, here are my thoughts... Some background: My husband and I are in our thirties with two small children. This is our only car. Neither of us are commuters. We use it for errands and trips. It replaces our 1994 VW Golf. We got it in White Orchid Pearl. This is our first new car.
  • Fuel economy has been terrific. I can get over 40 around town if I'm really trying. Yes, it involves a lot of coasting, but it is possible!
  • I'm happy with the shifter. The throw does feel short compared to the VW, but it doesn't bother me, and it's much better than the shifter on the Versa. I'm enjoying watching the colors change around the speedometer and figuring out where it wants me to shift, not that I always obey it, but it's interesting.
  • Back seat holds both our enormous car seats. It's great to not have to crush a front-seat passenger because of the car seat. Only the Fit and the Nissan Versa were able to accommodate these car seats.
  • Engine idle feels chinzy. When I start the engine, honestly, it sounds like a bicycle engine, like there's hardly anything there. That said, I've been pleased with the power and performance, so I can't complain. It's just the initial sound that's disconcerting.
  • Not having standard floor mats and cargo mat is annoying. I have them on order, but still, they should be standard. There's no way the default flooring material would stand up to even one winter.
  • The black panels on the grille and below the window on the hatch annoy me. They make the car seem like it's trying too hard to appeal to youth. I'd prefer if both the grille and hatch looked more like a Civic. We're not in some kind of mid-life crisis trying to buy a "young" car.
  • The cargo cover should be standard. We drive into the city and we need it to deter thieves. Also, the cover should be a retractable one like the Versa, so if you're not using it, you don't have to put it somewhere else in the car.
  • No quality control issues yet. I've definitely been on the look out for any issues with the body panels, the interior, etc. My VIN is numbered 12539, not sure if that's high enough that they worked out some of the problems...
I hope some of this info helps anyone who's considering a purchase!

I bought a cargo cover for my last Fit, but quickly ditched it when I got my windows tinted. 20% is dark enough for someone to not be able to see in even on a bright day, unless they put their face right against the glass.

Thanks for saying you like how the shifter feels, I've only driven 2 with CVT & CVT blows bigtime. I do believe a weighted shift knob and short shifter would be a great addition to the FIT for an even more solid shift feel.
