Programming a spare remote entry/start key

Just curious if anyone knows whether the info in this thread would apply to the 2015 too.

I'm a little paranoid about my key going dead and thought having an extra one or two might be useful.

Also, should I store the spare without the battery? Or would it lose its programming?

The dealer or locksmith still has to program the immobilizer for the new key so you're pretty much stuck with paying them to do it all.

Removing the battery doesn't affect the key code, and the car is programmed to match the key, not the other way around.

For the keyless entry fob, this thing runs on a battery right? I know I can take out the key and unlock the door with the key - I assume for when the fob runs out of battery - but if I do it this way and get in the car, how do I start the car? Doesn't the fob need to have battery to allow start/stop button to function?

I need to spend a weekend with the manual for this electronic marvel of an auto, but in scanning the tome it looks like even with a dead battery you can touch the key to the starter button and can still start the car.

Read the manual regarding this. Its there to read. If battery is going bad and it will not start if battery is in your pocket, you place the FOB with the honda "H" shown right up to the start button. It should start, than get a new battery.

When the battery gets very low you'll have to use the metal key to open the doors, but you can still start the car by holding the FOB near the button. I'm not sure how long it would take for the battery to completely die so you can't drive at all but I'm sure it is at least a couple days so you should have plenty of time to buy a new watch battery. I wouldn't worry about buying a 3rd FOB since they are so expensive as long as there is a store nearby that sells watch batteries.
