Thumbs down July Sales

Honda Fit 5115 in 2014 vs 5047 in 2013

Considering the Buzz on this forum, and the intro of the new model design, these look like disappointing results.

Honda built a new plant and they are having a hard time beating 2013 sales

The 2015 Fits are not a sales success

I think its a little tough right now to compare month to month sales figures considering the 15 just came out and may have supply issues.

I spent three weeks in July investigating the best dealer to buy a 15 fit and almost all of the area dealers had little to no supply (and I'm in north Jersey where there is a dealer in almost every town).

I bought my 15 Fit from the dealer the day they received their first supply. And judging by my experience talking to other dealers and tracking their inventory most Fits right now (at least around here) last 3 or 4 days max before being sold and often times sooner then that.

Yeah - Honda plants are pumping out options/colors not everyone wants. People are trying to source ones spec'd out to what they like.

Also, most people wait a year before purchasing a new model so that bugs are worked out.

Specific colors are hard to find yes, but in my search it was difficult to find the 15 fit in any color including the most common ones such as silver, grey and black.

The cars are leaving dealerships fast enough that most are being sold for msrp.

I'm sure the situation is getting better week to week but most of the car buying websites are still showing 0 average discount over msrp.

I imagine it will not be possible to get an accurate idea of the sales success or miss for a few months.

Since the Fit did not end up on dealer lots until June, I'm not sure how you can make such a comparison vs. the entire 2013 year of older model Fit's. If anything, it tells me that had availability not been an issue, the new 2015 Fits are completely outselling the 2013 versions, hands down.

I wonder how many of the new Fits are going to fleet sales? They can suck up thousands of cars per fleet . Makes no sense that there is this much of a shortage. When you buy for fleets you are going to get first call.

Once dealers can build up any inventory whatsoever the numbers will probably rocket upwards.

I would think a fair judgement cant be made till they are readily available and sitting on lots.

The GE had it's own supply issues throughout it's lifespan and fairly limited availability since all of them had to be shipped from Japan.

If the GK does not out sell the GE by a large margin that would be a HUGE failure simply from a logistics standpoint. I hope for Honda's sake their gamble pays off.

I agree it's not fair to compare sales figures at this point in time.

Considering supply was constrained by the slow roll out, the Fit did quite well. An increase is an increase.

Fleet sales? I'd guess none. As a 30+ year renter I've never seen a Honda in the Emerald Aisle.

I occasionally see base GEs on rental lots and I know some of the courier services use them out here in numbers, but I don't see fleet sales being a big contributor either.

Google honda fleet sales. You will find Hertz,Enterprise and other rental car companies selling their Used Honda Fits. Many cities and towns buy small cars from Honda fleet sales for certain departments.

I concur with most here, I think is more of a problem of low supply, than low demand.

I rented Honda Civics from Hertz. Enterprise Car Share and Zip.car have many Fits parked around Philly.

Let's wait and see how he August numbers compare. While supply still seems a bit constrained, I bet the GK will kick some butt this month YoY.

It's simple...you can't sell product if you can't produce and deliver the product. I've had a deposit down on a WOP EX for two months now and nothing. The status finally changed from build to "in transit" 2 1/2 weeks ago and the dealer still has no clue as to where the car is or when it might be delivered. This has to be the slowest roll out of a new model car in history. There are 4 dealers in this metropolitan area...2 of them have 2 cars per dealer and the other 2 dealers have no cars available. Most people looking for a new car aren't willing to wait around 2 or 3 months for the car to be available and will just move on to something else. If mine doesn't materialize within the next 2 weeks, I will likely join them, deposit or no deposit. Personally I think Honda has really dropped the ball on their ability to get this car to market. Grrrr.

Ok . If I can't get the Fit and I am not able to wait two to three months what should be my next choice of car?
