Red vs. Amber Rear Turn Signal
Red vs. Amber Rear Turn Signal
Is anyone besides me bummed that the rear turn signals are red and not amber?
I personally feel the amber turn signals look better and are much more noticeable.
I loved the nice bright Amber turn signals on the GD3.

I have to agree with the OP. The amber turn signals are much easier for others to see. I was relieved when I noticed my GE had amber signals at the rear. It's so annoying to be behind a car with red turn signals. It makes no logical sense to make the turn signals the same color as brake lights. It's like a Christmas tree going off when someone is turning while tapping the brakes at the same time. WTH?
Red turn signals are a North American Standard. Amber ones are uses in other countries. We modified our rules to allow amber in the US and Canada. You can argue which are better, but in the end it is Honda trying to Americanize their new vehicle.
I have no idea what the Mexican standard is where these are being made.

I also think red signal is way more dangerous. Some drivers may not realize the flashing red means someone is preparing to turn.... let's say it's dark and raining... and they may take it for tail lights or distant vehicles. Orange would not have this problem.
Bright or flashing red should mean slow down. Whether the car in front is braking or turning, you need to slow down. Personally I prefer amber, but a blinking red light certainly indicates a need to pay attention.
I'm with you on this. Those JDM hybrid tails look so good!

US cars had red turn signals because that way they only needed a single dual filament bulb on each side. One filament was the tail light, the other did double duty as brake and turn signal.
This doesn't go with the Fit, since the US version still has separate brake (LED) and turn signal (incandescent) lights.
I wouldn't mind having red turn signals if they were LED, since high intensity LEDs are cheaper in red. Unfortunately, the bean counters decided to have only the brake and tail lights be LED. They could even have combined the brake and tail function as US cars do. I doubt, however, that Honda would change the circuitry for the US unless it is mandated. The red turn signal lenses are likely a few cents cheaper than amber.
Mexican standard tends to be whatever the manufacturers are making! Back in the days of sealed beam headlights Mexican Dodges had sealed beams but Renaults had H4 Halogens.

Seriously, some of you need to get a life if you're worrying that much about turn signal color.
OTOH, Being an old school American, I prefer red rear turn signals. I even converted the turn signals on my Harley to red.

I much prefer amber turn signals all around.
