etrailer.com and trailer hitches...in process...
I just got this today after asking when they were due...
"I spoke with my contact at our supplier and they told me that they are in the process of fitting a Class l hitch for the 2015 Honda Fit. They told me that there should be a hitch available sometime in the fall of 2014. They were unable to give an exact date, but it is in the works. "

Your explanation does make sense. If Honda discovers the failure happened because one was towing something. If one did have problems with the transmission, clutch, shocks etc, I would certainly want to make sure I remove all evidence of a trailer hitch setup before bringing it to a dealer to have it covered under warranty.
The idea does intrigue me because having a small 1000ib trailer to carry equipment to a band gig I see value in. Having a manual tranny makes me weary still. My purposes I would likely be far less than 1000 pounds for cargo, I'll keep an eye on this thread when the hitch becomes available.
Do you use trailer brakes at all? How did you tie the brake lights and turn signals in? plug kit?

Receivers ARE available now
Mine is shipping to my house as we speak. I bought it from etrailer for $125 free shipping. Uhaul sells an equal for $189.

I only towed a trailer a handful of time to do dump runs for a friend or to move small furniture. I never did the outside plug kit, I ran the wires through the hatch when I needed them.
No trailer brakes.
I used mine primarily for a bike rack. I never had any issues bringing it in for service, they never said anything. It also worked great if I ever saw anything at a yard sale- run to U-Haul, grab a small trailer for 15 or 20 dollars, hook it up and I'm in business.
I wouldn't put 1,000 pounds in and bring it through the mountains, but a couple of hundred pounds around town I never had a problem.

I spoke to a local shop today. A light duty hitch is being released tomorrow. I don't know details, but they will do $190 installed for just the hitch local, pure bolt on and no drilling/cutting.
Now if we can just find roof racks...

Is this hitch fairly easy to install DIY? No mods to the body or body panels?
The wiring harness yeah I wouldn't leave in there all the time...then again who knows. Having a small trailer haul a few hundred pounds around I don't think will be too crazy...the idea is growing on me.

The shop told me that you'd have to move some of the underbody around, exhaust etc., to get it in place. As low as these cars are, I'll go with the shop. If you have a lift, etc., it should be a breeze.
Again, I have not seen it, just talked to a guy.

Ahh found the instructions!

Yeah having a lift will be helpful, but car ramps/wheel chocks will work too it seems.

I drove my 2010 onto a series of 2x10 (I think I had two on each side). It got it up enough. I had a young lass help and it was really no big deal. We did it one fall morning. She kept the coffee coming, I put it on without much hassle.
Can't be all that different.

Here is what Uhaul told me in an email:
"HItch # for a 2015 Honda Fit is 11406HC retail price 189.95. If you would like this hitch please contact your local uhaul center and they can order this hitch for you. Have a good day."
Looks like maybe they are re-selling the Curt hitch. It has an almost identical part number...

FYI the manual says that towing things will invalidate the warranty for damage that occurs from towing...
Yet it also says the max occupancy weight is 850 lbs total, including whatever is being towed...
850 lbs is not much, a lot of that would be occupant weight, plus the weight of the hitch, plus the weight of the actual trailer. You could tow maybe 100-200 lbs?

I'm using mine for a bike rack. Average bike rack is 25 to 50 lbs. Typical bike is 35 lbs.
4 bikes = 35 + 35 + 35 +35 = 140 + 50 for the rack = 190 lbs. Class 1 hitch can do 200 lbs tongue weight. Still have to be careful about how far out the bike carrier hangs because it will torque the receiver and could damage the receiver or and/or the car.

Here is a great thread on towing with the Fit:

I installed the hitch yesterday. I am very pleased with the quality of the product. Curt Manufacturing p/n C11406. I purchased it from eTrailer for a total cost of $124 (free shipping and no sales tax)
The installation was really quite simple. Here are two tips for anyone else who might do it:
1) use a little soapy water to lubricate the rubber exhaust hangers before trying to remove them.
2) have some wood blocks or an assistant available to hold up one side while you are bolting the other side.
