Direct Injection shut off while slowing?
Curious if anyone knows if the direct injection can or does stop fueling while slowing down? I believe a typical fuel injection car will supply fuel no matter what. I'm thinking DI gives the engineers the ability to stop fueling when completely off the throttle and certain parameters are met (coasting)
I can hear the DI if using 6th gear at maybe 35-40mph. Off the gas and the DI goes silent. Then slow down enough and shift so there is minimal engine braking and I hear the DI kick back in.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Yes, the car has the ability to completely shut off the fuel supply to the engine when coasting or slowing. Its called DFCO (deceleration fuel cutoff). Most modern engines have this, regular fuel injection and direct injection.
For your 6 speed, for DFCO to work you must be in gear and foot off the clutch. The car does the rest. Take your foot off the gas and if the momentum of the car is enough to keep the engine running, the car will shut off the fuel supply until you hit the clutch or the gas.

Virtually every EFI vehicle does this. The trigger parameters are small throttle opening, low manifold pressure and RPMs well above idle. It's done to reduce emissions, since these conditions are usually achieved during deceleration and there is no need for any burn at all.
