Remote Start

Any have it? I am thinking of saving up to get it. Every morning on the way to work im always rushing and don't have time to warm up the car as much as I want to. just wondering if anyone has it and if they like it? does it still lock all doors? and would I have to leave the heater on after the car is off so it will be auto when I start it? thanks in advance.

Finance guy at my dealership tried like hell to sell me a remote starter. I told him 6 or 7 times I did not want it, and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work on a 6MT anyway. Man ... he was really determined to add that remote starter, oh ... and the $99.00 wheel locks.

I thinjk it would be nice to have. Lot's of people at work have remote starters. Especially nice in the Winter.

I just start it and drive it. Sitting and idling just wastes gas.

In the 6 speed manual you cannot install a remote starter. I too wish I could have one but will never trade away the manual transmission for it.

This is the one option I wish I had included in the initial negotiation. It is much more expensive after the fact (when you have no real leverage).

incorrect. they have remote starters for manual transmission cars.

BUT, you have to do a "procedure" when you get out of the car so the software knows the car is "out of gear" and it will start afterword. if you do not do this procedure, then it will not start.

I once had a doctor who wanted to do a procedure on me, but it didn't sound like fun, so I declined.

I originally regretted not getting the remote start but my car has heated seats and it warms up pretty fast so I really am glad I didn't add to the expense of the car by adding it. I did have it in a previous car years ago but thinking back I wasted a lot of gas.

Sure does, but getting into a warm and defrosted car might be worth it if you live in Buffalo or Calgary. Here in SoCal not so much.

You can put remote start on a manual transmission car, but the system has to have a neutral switch for the transmission and an applied switch for the parking brake. These combined are the equivalent of the "park" sensor of the automatic.

I have the remote start - I negotiated them to add it for free. It is very nice, but has one odd (but understandable) issue. It will only work if the car doors are locked and when you unlock the door to get into the car it turns off. This is because they do not want people stealing your push button car while it is warming up.

I also wish the remote start fob replaced the standard fob, but it does not.

I have it also because I plan on moving back to Alaska in the future and it is an amazing thing to have. I love it, and like cybrsage said, its shuts off if you unlock the door. The dealer set it for 10 minutes of idle time and I dont notice too much gas wasted. The car is warm and windshield defrosted. I do have to leave the heat on for it to come on when I remote start it.

Did you ever think about a block heater sor living in Alaska? I always liked the idea of getting everything warmed up before starting the engine. The closest I came was what they call a tank heater. It's an electrically heated tank that goes in the middle of a heater hose. As the water gets hot, it circulates through the entire cooling system. Works great.
