Automobile Magazine on Fit
Automobile Magazine on Fit
Was at the dentist and I believe it was the January issue of Automobile Magazine I was reading there. It spoke highly of the Fit, especially in the 6MT.
I'd have to agree with the review of the Fit overall and how great the 6MT is.

Car and Driver also gave it an excellent review and 5 star rating.

I just don't get what so special about Honda and their packages and options. I like to be able to biy what I want and not have buy what I don't want.
Honda's packaging and options is the sole reason I passed it up in 2013 when I ordered my new 2014 Fiesta.
It is once again their packaging and options that have my girlfriend and me on the fence again with the 2015 Fit.
I read different reviews on the FIT. Yes, great car. Reliable. Probably more reliable than my Fiesta will ever be. It came down to buying what options i wanted and was willing to pay for and skipping the options I didn't want and not paying for them an keeping my money in my pocket.
I read how great the 6-speed manual is. How smooth it shifts. How fun it is to drive. To bad it only available in cheaper trim levels. The manual transmission isn't there because Honda feels and wants you have fun with vehicle. It's there because its CHEAP! Is there so Honda can low ball the price and make it look attractive as possible.
For those willing to splurge or those who find leather seats a worthwhile option, they get forced to buy the less fun CVT. The manual isn't an option because Honda's bean counters just figure if you spending on leather you will spend on the CVT.
Simply having the 6-speed to have fun was never in their realm of thoughts!

Reverse camera, hill holder and heated mirrors and seats are all pretty badass options I woulda like to have in my 2007 fit. The only thing honda real messed up is that 6th gear. What were they thinking? Hopefully they fix that in the 2016 Fit.
Perhaps I'm a little odd. I drive upwards of of 50,000mi/yr. A smal, fuel efficient, vehicle is nice for me. I didn't always drive a small vehicle. I previously drove a small SUV that got reasonable fuel mileage.
I work in the construction trade. The mud, dirt, and dust always seems a constant. I have found leather interior to be priceless. Its so easy to clean. The mud and dirt of my clothing wipes right of the seats.
My biggest gripe you aren't picking up on is being able to pock and choose options.
My Fiesta is an oddity with its options. I hate a sunroof. I've had them. Don't miss it. I got four windows I can open included with vehicle. Paying the going rate of about $800 for a 5th one in the roof isn't worth it to me. Usually they just alot of noise from the wind buffering the sunroof when open. With the Fiesta, a sunroof is a stand alone option regardless of trim level. Didn't want it. Didn't buy it. Saved $800.
My Fiesta is a top-of-line Titanium trim. I have full leather interior. In beige, not Black! Can get either color. I have heated mirrors, heated seats, back up camera, premium sound system with HD radio and Siruis. Mine is a 5-speed manual. Ford's automatic transmission is also a stand alone option in any trim level. I wanted the manual. Saved $1195 because I wasn't forced into the automatic. The other other significant option on the vehicle in that package is Nav system. Another stand alone option. Didn't want it. Didn't get it. Saved another $795.
When I bought my Fiesta the 2013 didn't offer leather. Both the Fiesta and Sonic did. It was something I wanted. I knew the 2015 Fit was going to offer it. It was many months off until it would be even available for sale. But Honda had the info out there and how it would be packaged.
I bought FITs #1 direct competitor because of options. I got my heated leather seats and trim and my fun to drive manual transmission. An impossible combination with the 2013 FIT and still an impossible combination with the 2015 FIT.
I saved $795 because I skipped the sunroof. Honda forces me to pay fot as part of a package.
I saved $1195 because I took the 5-speed over Ford's PowerShift. Honda forces the automatic on me with leather trim.
I saved another $795 because I didn't get Nav but still got my Sirius radio and premium stereo from Ford. Honda forces me to pay an additional $1000 because I must have Nav to get Sirius radio.
MSRP of my Fiesta Titanium with leather was $18,800, less rebates and dickering, I paid $17,100 +taxes, tags.
A fully loaded Fiesta with sunroof, Nav, and automatic is comparable in price to a new FIT EX-L Nav.
By actually having choices. I got exactly what I wanted and saved almost $3000 by having the option of not being forced to buy pricey options.
This was the reason I didn't buy a FIT. It wasn't about one brand being better than the other. Wasn't about reliability. I think any vehicle will run 250,000mi. It was about me driving 50,000mi/yr and getting exactly what I wanted! And paying a fair price for it!
My girlfriend and I are considering a new FIT for her use. She would like Sirius radio. She couldn't care less about a sunroof. She doesn't care if she has cloth or leather seats but she wants heated seats. Once again, it's why we are both on the fence with the new FIT. She can't pick and choose options. She either has sacrifice a few things and save. Or spend alot more to get the things she wants and be forced to pay for alot of stuff she don't care to have.

Once again, I'm not here to step on toes on put the FIT down. Now that it is redesigned for 2015, its a good vehicle. Probably highly reliable!
I will, however, defend the Fiesta again. In previous years, both the Fiesta and Sonic outsold the Fiesta.
I find it odd. Actually more like intentional. The Fiesta, being the FITs #1competitor, and possibly the only one that seriously compete vs. the FIT, was left out of the Automobile magazine comparison?

I had the exactly same thougt.
All I can say is he's pissed because he missed it.
And he's WRONG that manual comes only in cheaper models.
EX comes in 6MT.
EX is generally known as more EXpensive model on all Hondas. At least it's the mid level for Fit, and it has backup camera, touch screen, sunroof, right lane change camera, push start, etc. With these many features on EX, how can it be considered as a cheaper model as he says?

I dont get what you are griping about. The packages aren't so bad. A MT car doesn't have to be good, I've driven some pretty awful ones. If you just take a quick look at the service manual section on the auto transmission, you see that it's an extremely complex system compared to the MT; that's why it's so cheap. Ok so the whole leather thing is a bitch but no previous trim ever even got leather and we lived with it. I mean, leather in an econobox isn't exactly a prerequisite.
Reverse camera, hill holder and heated mirrors and seats are all pretty badass options I woulda like to have in my 2007 fit. The only thing honda real messed up is that 6th gear. What were they thinking? Hopefully they fix that in the 2016 Fit.

Where I disagree is on the complaints about 6th gear since that gear handles it just fine and I don't get any high rev noise to complain about. It handles steep hills doing 70 in 6th, but on my 2011 Fiesta I had to not only downshift, but take the hill much slower. I couldn't even do the speed limit, period.
The Fit MT is a dream. On the Fiesta it was a chore most the time just to get it into reverse, and when it was cold out, the shifting was stiff until warmed up, but on the Fit, it is always smooth and it is always easy to put in reverse. After having the MT Fiesta for over 3 years, I really learned to appreciate the Fit.
It was because of that review I decided to go with the MT. The mileage is less but I think I probably got a better driving car. I've driven manuals almost all my life anyway.
There's no right or wrong about getting or not getting the MT. I've driven MT for the last 35 years or so and when I test drove the Fit in the CVT, I liked it. So as an experiment I drove my wife's 2015 auto Civic around town and I definitely saw that I wanted the MT because the auto is just too boring for me. For some reason I still want to "drive" the car and not have the car "drive me". It's just more fun even though I really don't race around. I just like shifting and the Fit is so much fun to shift. So smooth.
