In most ways, I'm really impressed with this car. But the human interface is horrible! When I get in the car and start backing up, the radio starts blaring and there appears to be no way to turn it off (is there one?) without shifting out of gear, responding to a warning screen, and then muting the sound. I can't even see a simple way to turn off the radio (as opposed to muting it). It tries to take over my iPhone when I make a call, even though the microphone is pretty terrible. Surely there must be a way to change some of these defaults, but I can't find them.

I hope that Honda will have the good sense to let Carplay take over for their truly flawed human interface system. If I had realized how awful their system is, I would not have bought this car. It seems like a minor issue, but it's one I have to wrestle with every time I drive the vehicle.

 

There is a audio off switch looks like a power off switch on unit. It will turn off audio and remembers your selection. Car remembers your bluetooth connection. It will connect to your phone automatically. I think, there are some settings to control this. You need to spend some time patiently and go over the menus and understand system.

 

Turn the volume down when you shut the car down. Disconnect the Blue Tooth. Simple. Sell it. Many others would be happy to have it, and you can get a Kia, or Hyundai, or Yaris

Seeing as to how you just joined, maybe you are still in the window to return your car? If not, as others suggested, the manual is a good read. Also, I think most cars auto connect via Bluetooth when you start the car (the systems I have played with anyways)...

 

I believe all trim levels have the nice volume controls on the left spoke of the steering wheel. I use it all the time.

In fact the great thing about this car is all the driver centric controls on and around the steering wheel. Once I get on a road and identify the speed limit, I like to set the cruise control and leave it until I need to make adjustments for traffic ahead, and then I often click up or down to vary my speed in 1 MPH increments. Click the cancel when I need to coast to a stop. Click the wiper stalk up to clear some drizzle. Come to a corner, click the left paddle shift to downshift to slow a bit and accelerate around the corner.

I know that is all a little off topic, but wanted to share some of what I really like about this car.

Definitely read through the manual a few times, I found it much easier to do so on the computer by reading the PDF instead of the small print hard copy manual.

Life gets more complicated with every iteration of any product, whether it be computers, phones, cars, etc. Its unfortunate but with everyone's appetite for newer, better, faster, more, more, more, its unavoidable. There is a much greater learning curve when you step into to realm of anything new. It may seem very difficult at first, but with patience and perseverance, you can learn anything. And in the long run, hopefully it makes things more convenient and makes life more fun. Life's short, enjoy the ride!

Really though, check the manual. Turn down the volume before you turn off your car. It will restart at the same volume you left it. Don't forget the steering wheel volume control. Also, there's an option for your Fit to automatically adjust volume if you're going fast. Smart volume? Can't remember what it was called, but going slow or parked volume would be lower and going fast it will automatically adjust louder to compensate for noise. Might help.

This is one thing I wish the GE had. The S2000 had it... I wish they would have used it more.

 

The GE didn't have SVC? Really? The GD did...


But anyway, steering wheel controls work fine even with the backup camera on. I actually have the same problem as the OP. About 2 seconds into backing down my driveway and my stereo will start blaring a little too loud. Buttons on the wheel are a lifesaver.

And there is a power button that instantly shuts off the audio function. On the EX and EXL its the black and green button next to the CD slot.

For making a call and not wanting it to go over bluetooth, you can hit transfer or private mode (I can't remember what it says) on the radio and the call will go back to your iPhone.

 

The GE does have this. I hate it when my Taylor Swift turns down as I slow to a stop.

 

Does it? I have mine on (SVC) and it doesn't seem to do a damn thing. Maybe I have to turn it to high? I'll try that later.
