Deep Scratch on Fit..Need Help/Ideas
Deep Scratch on Fit..Need Help/Ideas
Hey everyone! So my 2nd day parking in the garage at my job and some idiot doesn't seem to know how to drive and ran into my car. The side has a super deep scratch and was wondering if any of you know what I can do to fix it myself or if it's best left to the professional?
If professional, any idea how much it would cost to fix something like this?

I had the same thing happen to my 2 month old FIT.
Since the body panel was involved and not just the plastic bumper cover (as yours is), there is a chance of rust. Because of the scratch on the body they had to repaint the entire panel, which goes up and over the doors. The bumper had to be refinished.
My insurance covered it, minus my deductible ($300) The total invoice at the body shop was $1,300. Not cheap.
Good luck!

I think i would spend some time browsing the parking lot for black paint on the front right corner of the perpetrators vehicle. Hopefully a regular to find them, but then again, hopefully not a regular for repeat performances. Uhhg..
That is so frustrating. Unless you have experience with body work or you aren't particular about it looking perfect, I would get some quotes. At least its low on the car so if it doesn't look perfect when you're done (if you do decide to attempt it yourself) it may not be as noticeable (although you will probably see it every time). It would need to be sanded, and a primer applied before you apply the finish coats. It's a process.
That's not a DIY type deal unless you're a paint pro. The paint is gone.
"That'll buff out" does not apply unfortunately. Call your insurance because as has been said, it's not going to be a cheap fix.

Ouch, yeah that's easily $1000+ most likely. That just sucks. I hate when people can't own up to to their mistakes.
Good news is it doesn't appear to have much of a dent from the photos. And being the car is so new, color matching/blending shouldn't be too much of an issue as long as you go to a reputable shop that knows what they are doing and they use a quality product. So that will minimize some of the work.
