Wind Noise & Wiper Arm Turbulators

Let's assume for a moment that the passenger-side wiper arm generates a fair bit of wind noise at highway speed. It also might be air flowing over the hood and tumbling over the step at the base of the windshield, but I can't do anything about that. What I can do is mess with the wiper arm. I remembered someone suggesting to wrap rope or cord around roof rack bars to quiet them, so I decided to try it out and spiral-wrapped a boot lace around the passenger side wiper arm, securing it with some electric tape. I'll drive it around like this to see if it works and maybe experiment with the number of turns to see if it can be improved.

If it works I will try to cover the boot lace with a length of electrical heat-shrink to make it durable and neater. If not, back into the boot it goes.

I encourage anyone who drives daily at freeway speeds to try out a few crazy things like this and let us know if something works. Zig-zag turbulators anyone?

Sounds like a wind tunnel would make your life easier.

Keep up the experiments and make sure to post your results.

I don't think your car is going to go any faster because of that.
