Heated Seat Add-Ons

A friend has heated seats in his car, and he says he loves them. I've never seen the need. I dress warm when it's cold out. I was wondering if any of you have tried these add-on heated seats.

I know at least one of you has done a major installation of Honda seat heaters, but I'm not interested in that.

Well with that logic you don't really need the heater besides for defrosting your windows either. Heated seats are 100% a luxury add-on, not a necessity, but they are amazing.

I have hated seats in my GTI & my wife has them in her MINI. Before we had these cars I thought I didn't need them. Now that I have experienced them I won't have a car without them. I really crave a heated steering wheel.

A good auto upholstery shop could easily add seat heaters.

Sounds good. I'll check the ones for sale on Amazon. At least one brand cannot be installed in seats that have airbag sensors. Having a set in the driver's seat would be good enough, with the other set going into another car.

Never gave a thought to airbags & sensors. Glad you are paying attention, because I sure wasn't.

I have a car with cooled/heated seats and a heated steering wheel. It all seemed ridiculous when I bought it. Now I don't want to give up ANY of them.

In a way, I wish I never experienced them. It makes future car purchases more difficult/costly. Ignorance is truly sometimes bliss.

My LX came with the dual front heated seats. It was -34C early this morning when I went for a long highway trip, so yeah, I turned mine on. Eventually I felt the heat through my heavy parka. I turned it off after about 15 minutes. My sister raves about this in her car but since I've never had it in any of my previous cars it was no big deal to me. Dressed warmly as I am I can live without it. I'll probably never turn it on again.

If you have leather seats, I think seat heaters are a necessity because leather really holds the cold. Cloth seats seem to warm up pretty quickly though so I've never felt I really "needed" seat heaters in my EX.

Would it be nice? Sure...

even alcantara seats on my STI i dont usually use its heaters in 20F. no real need. but as rismo mentioned, in my Golfs with leather seats its a requirement. the seats get VERY cold.

i never really felt the need for heated seats in my GK as they are cloth.

someone complained about GK's lower vents not heating up the front foot well area.. i confirmed tonight that neither does my GK.

My wife loves her heated seats in her Forte SX, and, yeah, it's nice with the cold leather. I feel no need, but I'd be all over cooled seats, for sure. Here in suburban Knoxville, it's hot a lot more than it's cold

Over on the CR-V Forum, folks have been complaining that the newest cars are slow to heat up in the 10 minutes that the Remote Start will run the car.

Those with Heated Seats report that a 'toasty bun' makes it more comfortable to drive away immediately, cutting down on the cost of idling the car just to warm it up.

I'm helping you RATIONALIZE the seat heaters, people!

I know, First World Problems...

You dont mean me? I used aftermarket heater elements, but used the OEM honda switches adapting it to the aftermarket harness.

I've never gone to the trouble of actually adding real heated seats.
But I do have one of those AC plug in heated seat cushion deals. And I really like it. For the coldest months of The Winter, it gives me "Heated Seats".
Then what I really like? I can remove it the rest of the year. Or use it indoors...mine has a AC or Plug In adapter set up.
For the price? It gives me the same end result...and more versatility.

My wife has the Amazon Basics heated seat cushion. It gets hotter faster on low than the high setting on my Frontier... She loves it. It fits a little weird on the seat, but is pretty comfortable. Worth throwing a $20 bill at it...

I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I got these for my Fit and my son's. I'll have to wait for a nice warm day to install them. : )
