Trying to decide between the Fit, the HR-V and the Civic Hatchback
I currently have a Fit - I would really like to hear your thoughts if you have any of these
Mostly I like the fit - especially I am in NY city so the best thing about the fit is that I can park anywhere and the turning radius is amazing

Don't like
the A/C
Very low ground clearance (driveways and potholes - ouch)
Is not good in the snow
Would prefer really variable wipers instead of only a couple speeds


(Usually just me in the car, so room isn't a big problem)

 

You currently have a Fit.
So you know the positives and negatives.

I think all 3 vehicles are very good/great products.

So I don't think anyone can really help too much.

I like the Civic Hatchback, and the HRV. (knock on wood that it doesn't happen) but if my Fit was totaled? I'd probably take a good hard look at those vehicles.

Since you say you live in NYC, it sounds like the advantages of a sub-compact are considerable.
But you are familiar with what you are getting with the Fit. If the siren song of a larger/different vehicles is calling?
Only you can decide whether you want to answer or not.

 

Most of these issues would be solved by the HR-V, although I don't know of how it performs in the snow. My GK5 is fantastic in the snow.


I believe that the HR-V has true variable speed wipers, but don't quote me on that.

 

The fit is a bit anemic power wise
I know that nobody can make the decision for me, but I have found this forum to be particularly useful (and nice) and sometime people who have owned a car for a while have insights that you can't really get in a test drive

Any reason you like the civic HB so much?

 

If you think the Fit is anemic, go test drive an HR-V.

Fit is 130 hp for ~2500 lb. curb weight. HR-V is 141 hp for ~2900 lb. Eleven extra hp over the Fit doesn't make up for the extra 400 lb curb weight. The Fit is almost a burner by comparison.

 

I'm unsure what you mean by bad in the snow. i have winter tires and manual shift, and the Fit performs very well in the snow.

 

The Fit is perfectly fine in the snow.
The Fit is not low.

The Fit is fine, especially if you already own it. HRV are trash and all belong in dumpsters.

I don't have winter tires because I am in NY city, so we have a day or a couple days after a big snowstorm when it sucks, but then the roads are clear. But I work in a hospital, so no snow days for me.

I also live in a tiny apartment so there is no place to keep a second set of tires

I realize winter tires make a big difference, but I still think the Fit is bad in the snow compared to other cars without snow tires (my old tercel, the civic, the corolla)

A friend has the Civic hatch. That 175 hp is very nice indeed. The car drives great.

The car feels wider and lower than my Fit, and getting in and out is more difficult. Then again, I'm 63.

HRV sounds like a poor choice to me based on reviews and specs.

 

If I was going to replace the Fit today, it'd be a Civic HB. It gets about the same MPG and can haul nearly as much as the Fit. But my Fit is paid for and I'm going to drive it till it don't drive.

As far as snow days, then those are the days to take the subway or Uber/Lyft.

Take Uber/Lyft to subway to hospital then. Would be cheaper than getting a new car. But if the heart wants a new car, then go for it

 

OP, do you have snow tires? If the answer is no, you cannot say the Fit is bad in snow.

 

I know snow tires would be better in the snow. The comparison I am making is between the Fit without snow tires and my other cars without snow tires (like tercel, corolla, civic)

 

My next car will either be ......

1. 2020 Fit if it comes with a beige interior. Really getting tired of black interior.

2. 2020 Honda Civic hatchback

3. 2020 Toyota Corolla hatchback

 

i don’t like it so much. i just don’t like the GK and HRV. civic you get better seating position more power just as good mpg.

 

I think I created a thread or posted once about the Fit's lack of IMO a true variable intermittent wiper.
And I wish it did have one too...

But it's lack of having it, would never even be on my radar as a "deal breaker". And I live where it rains a lot.
