Bingo. You got it. Has Mexico plates. Wonder why the antenna up front? I can see black mirror and door handle covers for all color cars would save money.

Maybe that antenna gets better AM/FM reception to help with more remote areas?

I don't believe Sirius is available for the Mexican market vehicles so they probably don't have a use for the stubby all in one antenna that we get.

As a received radio signal travels down the transmission cable between the antenna and say the radio there is a signal loss which takes place. The longer the cable the greater the signal loss. A front mounted antenna will provide stronger signals to the radio. That's why antennas used to be mounted on the front fender of a car, closest to the radio.

As a second reason as kenchan has already mentioned, a shorter transmission cable running between the antenna and the radio is a cost saving and since that's typically a shielded cable, cutting it's length in half is probably a nice savings on a production volume of cars.

The argument for putting the antenna at the back of the roof ..... well all I can think of is an appearance issue. It usually does look nicer there. I'd guess it's also less likely to get smacked by bugs there.

The base MT version here in the Philippines has the antenna mounted upfront just like that. I should know, I own one. All the AT variants have a small stubby antenna at the back.

But when the MMC was released last year, ALL variants now have a stubby antenna at the back.

Just weird.

I never see it move. Just parked here in the Bay Area in California. They own a previous model fit too. Was on my bike one day and the antenna stuck out and then I noticed the black mirrors and handles so thought I would post a pic. Great comments.

Perhaps it's the long cable that makes the AM radio so disappointing. I notice more interference in the Fit, especially when going by certain industrial areas arount town, that I don't hear in our XB2. The audio is weird too (which has been referenced already in a few threads on this board) but I think that's might be some kind of hardware/software filter, nothing to do with reception.

I've found that my radio reception is slightly better with my 18" antenna, except of course in tunnels and under big bridges. 21" antenna on the way.

Oops. Sorry. MMC stands for Minor Model Change. We got a facelifted Fit (Jazz here in the Philippines) in 2017 with a new front/rear bumper.
