EX/Navi Stereo - issue with "view track text" common?

Hi folks,

One of the fancy features of the radio is the option to view the track text, that is, for the radio to display the name of the currently playing track. This should work for stations which broadcast this tidbit of info.

The issue is that it is not consistent at all. At times, an entire song plays and doesn't get identified. Other times, a song's text will appear after the song has played, etc.

My Altima 2002 had this function which was almost instantaneous. Seconds after a song would play, its text would display.

2 questions:
  1. Anyone else experiencing this?
  2. Is there a method of updating the firmware of the radio? (its more than a radio )
Cheers

I assume you mean the RDS for radio. I typically blame the radio station for poor info update with a song change. I don't know how else to explain why sometimes it doesn't change and other times it does. I do wish there was an option for the song info to scroll so that long track names could be read in whole

Thanks.
I think it's a software flaw. The same stations used to have the song names reported consistently and almost immediately on my 13 year-old Altima.

I also dislike that this information is not simply displayed on the current station screen which has vast empty space. Seems silly to have to request the song name... and take your eyes off the road to do it.

Maybe there's some kind of RDS updater code that doesn't trigger timely when a song changes.

Are you observing the same behaviour on yours?

Korgster, is your RDS Info set to "ON". Press Home, Settings, Audio, then make sure "RDS Info" is set to "ON". Song title and artist info (i.e. RDS Info) will then be automatically displayed as long as the radio station you're listening to supports it.

Thanks GoBucky! You may have made my day with this one.
I'll try it tonight and report back. Sounds like this could be it.
Cheers!

With RDS off, I never had any radio info, it just showed the station number. But I would say it didn't always update the song name as quick as the song changed.
